In light of the work of his foundation and of Livestrong on behalf of cancer survivors, and all he has done and continues to do in the fight against cancer, for you to say he is an “its all about me” guy is one of the most incomprehensibly ridiculous things imaginable. That you live in his area does not solve this problem - it compounds it.

I agree. To be the best there has to be a selfishness
to get there. Perhaps self absorbed is better.
However, some of the best are also the most gracious.

The ultimate in my favorite miserables is Ben Hogan.

Heh. I would love to see Lance overtake Schleck for 2nd place tomorrow, but he would have to beat him on Mont Ventoux by over a minute. That mountain is an absolute beast.

And the sweetest thing is that anytime Lance is in the TDF, the french press are crapping in their berets. Him up on the podium in Paris would really stick it to those vile bastards.

I agree that Lance could of easily won another TDF, and been on the podiums for a few more as well if he didn't retire. But the guy still has 7 final yellow shirts at home. He's the man.

I do not like him.

Thanks for sharing that crucial piece of information. I just hope that he, and all of us, can sleep tonight, now that you've made that known.

any work he has ever done has been with the vision of him being a hero..winning prizes....

others are entitled to their opinions, as for me, I can’t stand what Armstrong stands for... humanism

I remember because playing backyard, sandlot ball, I could hang in there with the best of the local jocks.

But those jocks, when they got in front of a crowd of people, their game would go up a few notches. They liked performing in front of a crowd.

As they say in baseball, when a player gets called up from the minors, "Let's see how he plays when there are two decks on the stadium."

There has to be a certain amount of arrogance, or some need to perform in front of a crowd, to get there.

I see some bad things coming for Armstrong on the path he is on

So it's all about you and your great predictive powers then?

Well... I don’t know that I would say his being a hero was the vision. But yeah, the money, the prizes, the fame, the glory.

I personally don’t aspire to most of those things, but I do work hard and study hard to get ahead, make a bit more money, make my life a bit more pleasurable. I am glad we do have those in this country that aspire to those things, because it results in our advancement over time, as a society.

No. He stands for domination in time trials, boundless fortitude and energy in the mountains, and near tactical perfection; all after overcoming a massive physical challenge. Do you go around judging the religious purity of everybody, or just champion athletes?

BTW: I can't stand what you stand for... Busybodyism. Sticking your nose into an athletes mind to determine that his religious leanings aren't up to your righteous standards is nauseating in the extreme, and doesn't strike me as exactly Christ like.

I agree with your post wholeheartedly. Typically, helping others is not what selfish people do. I like Lance, more today than ever.

****I just get tired of hearing about Lance and nothing else - it is also time to give Contador and others their due****

I don’t understand Athlete Fatigue. If a superb athlete continues to dominate his chosen field, shouldn’t that be encouraged? Personalities and circumstances aside, I applaud longevity as a highly sought after goal of human endeavors.

I think the Versus TV coverage of the Tour has been pretty damn balanced. Ofcourse LA returning to the TDF is a big story and the fact thats he's doing so well is getting priority coverage. Versus always puts more emphasis on reporting on the performances of the USA riders, but thats to be expected as its the USA based channel that covers the TDF.

Half the Versus team are British and they've been giving lots of time to the Cavendish performances as well. But overall I think at least the TV coverage has been balanced. The commentators spend plenty of time talking about all riders, not just the US ones.

I've been hearing that a lot of French public have been very positive on Lance's return as well. Given the current worldwide economic problems, the TDF sponsors have got to be loving Lance's return. Its probably boosted tour turnout by the fans greatly, increased tv ratings, and meant more job creation and positive economic impact for the tour and sport as a whole.

Thanks for the sarcasm - you sound like Democrat. Lance is a roid head. He just found a better doctor. People on the tour knew he was and he still is. He has a very unpleasant personality and he dumped his wife for Cherly Crowe which was a dumb move. Dumped Sheryl when she got cancer.
