You should read "The Man Who Folded Himself", by David Gerrold. It explains everything.
Aiiii...
Thou hast words that belie the red roof
I need a beer!
Bar man! (Slaps counter)
Oddly enough, that is my carpet and my floor, but not my house or my kitteh.
It would look like mine, except that you can see the floor.
Shannon is far too dignified for that posture, but we often find Ash just so ... like an enormous dead chicken on the floor.
Today is the 219th anniversary of the founding of the United States Coast Guard.
United States Coast Guard
Guardian Ethos
I am Americas Maritime Guardian.
I serve the citizens of the United States.
I will protect them.
I will defend them.
I will save them.
I am their Shield.
For them I am Semper Paratus.
I live the Coast Guard Core Values.
I am a Guardian.
We are the United States Coast Guard.
Raucous Round of Applause (and a Guinness, if appropriate) to all our Coast Guard FReepers, past and present, with a special wave to TonkinGulfYachtClub in the Hereafter, and Seaman Recruit Anoreth!
One of the fisrt songs we learned in music in Jr. High was the Coast Guard Anthem. Can’t recall the words, but the music will never die!
And whatever you do, do NOT watch “The Guardian.”
I’m sure I won’t. I can’t place a Coast Guard Anthem, although I know Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines.
Project for later ... right now I need to load up some Offspring. Elen has a doctor appointment (general checkup).

“Semper Peratus is our guide...”
It loses something in print...
From North and South and East and West,
The Coast Guard’s in the fight.
Destroying subs and landing troops,
The Axis feels our might.
For we’re the first invaders,
On every fighting field.
Afloat, ashore, on men and Spars,
You’ll find the Coast Guard shield.
Chorus
We’re always ready for the call,
We place our trust in Thee.
Through howling gale and shot and shell,
To win our victory.
“Semper Paratus” is our guide,
Our pledge, our motto, too.
We’re “Always Ready,” do or die!
Aye! Coast Guard, we fight for you.
a local lad at 17YO volunteered for the US Navy on 12/09/41 "to fight the Japs" & "see the world". after WWII, he chose to "hang around" for another hitch & finished his 30 years as a Gold Stripe Naval Aviator.
upon his retirement, he returned to Athens, TX in his "sailor suit", covered with decorations. - while everyone smiled & nodded at him, NOBODY said "welcome home Bob" or anything like that, so he said to himself, "They just cannot see past my uniform".
so he went into a men's furnishing store, bought a new suit, tie & shoes AND purchased a new suitcase to carry his uniform in.
returning to the sidewalk, he noted that not only did NOBODY recognize him BUT they also didn't even nod & smile anymore.
finally, he saw Bill McDonald, whom he had know in high school days/daze. (saying to himself, "surely 'Ole Bill will remember me"), he called out "HEY, Bill. how's it going".
Bill said, "about the same as ever, Bob = hot & dry. where are you going on vacation???"

Happy 4th, general! Back from the doctor, whichever kid it was is fine and had some shots, come back in a couple of years.
Pretty much how it goes.
The missus complains about tucking me in.
“Descrimination against the undead”
Yeah, they’d try to bury me first though.
