“...the pain of labour should be considered a “rite of passage”...”
And for each child she can get a teardrop tattoo on her cheek.
NHS just doesn’t want to spring for the drugs.
I agree, 2 babies, no drugs, but a feeling I can’t describe that I would love to feel again. I developed Lupus and was advised not to have more due to kidney damage.
As for the teen thing, I survived that too. One child married, 2 natural births of her own and the other to marry next June.
Thanks Kalee... most women look at me like I have lost my mind when I tell them they are being robbed by taking pain block. If there are extenuating circumstances, maybe. 12 hours of labor is not an extenuating circumstance! My first grandson was born, but my daughter was talked into pain killers because I was not able to be there.
My wife had pain meds and amazingly quick births of our daughters.
Still, while in labor she cursed me like a dock worker.
FREERIDER PING!
Did you know 85% of all babies delivered by midwives are minorities?
You can’t like those odds. ;)
I’ve birthed 4, one with no meds, and here’s what I say:
“Natural” childbirth is OK as long as the labor is very short.
Once you’re talking 6+ hours of labor, epidurals are the way to go.
I like the way you think.
Tagline! LOL!
LMAO! perfect! spread that glorious experience around to those who are not biologically capable of experiencing it!
I had my youngest 4 children at home. My last 2 labors were 2 hours long. Very tolerable. I’ve also had spinal meds with others. Both had pros and cons. Keep your options open, it’s all good in my book.
That’s right. I have no patience when I’m in pain. I’d kick his head off and he’d need pain meds. BUT he should share in the pain experience.
My mother comes from the time when they knocked you out. We’re fine and she doesn’t feel she missed any great experience either.
i LMAO at the part where the guy said ewes who had epidurals were more likely to abandon the lambs. i had 3 kids— one cesearan, 2 vbac, all with meds and mine are 21, 18 and 15. i guess i could YET abandon them!!!
;-)
Ping!
“a leading male midwife” explains alot there. Cominf soon to “healthcare” near YOU!
When I was delivering babies in Brooklyn 35 years ago, there was no anesthesia available. A nurse would stand on the head of the bed, looking down at the mother to be.
Often, to get into the spirit of the occasion, she would shout, "Honey, it feels good going in and it hurts coming out, and that's just how it is!"
Great for you. You are fortunate with your good experience. However, it is not “nonsensical” to go drug free.
You probably think you were fully informed about the risks (some of which I have witnessed occur). I’m sincerely happy it went good for you.
I gave birth to a 9 1/2 pound baby boy without drugs of any kind. I survived. Well, no, I didn’t go work in the field afterwards but hey, he’s almost 30.
Good point. It is modern England however...you never know.
i’m a lawyer, so is my husband. my doctors know that. we were fully informed of risk, believe me.
