I saw Children of Earth and if it isn't a Hallmark card for anti-police state I don't know what is. I kept thinking that had the citizens had a right to arms there would have been a large bunch of dead jack booted thugs.

I kept saying to myself "How do you like you nanny police state now?" during several key pivotal scenes.

Also the politicians rationalizing a 10% loss and trying to spin it was very much a a biting commentary of the how socialism tries to justify the looses as a means to it's ends.

Nice review, wish you could do a breakdown of all of the themes of Children of Earth..

Most of it has been released on DVD and Netflicks should have it.

*raises hand* Doctor Who geek right here...Torchwood is pretty good. Can't say I like David Tennant or the way Russel T. Davies has taken the new incarnation of the show but the next season might be better...

I grew up watching Baker and Davidson but I also like Pertwee

Dr. Who was very anti-gun. In one show Doctor Who says to a soldier “Get away from me, you have a gun. I don’t trust people with guns.”

Plus, every time one of his allies tried to use a weapon to fight an alien, he would rebuke them, then just trick the bad guys into leaving, or he’d use his sonic screwdriver to defeat them.

Enjoyable series but very, very liberal.

And Captain Jack of Torchwood is a bi-sexual who kissed a guy in one show and tried to seduce another guy in another show, ‘til Doctor Who told him to knock it off.

Torchwood: Children of Earth

Starting Monday July 20 on BBC America

They have some of the best science fiction - "Torchwood", "Primeval", "Doctor Who" and the best car show - "Top Gear".

I like Torchwood. Good Scifi series. Only warning: Lots of bisexualism/homosexualism.

That alone might turn off a lot of FReepers.

No spoilers please - Children of the Earth doesn’t air in the USA until next week!

Oh, and disclaimer for FReepers: Torchwood does contain bisexual characters and gratuitous sexuality and violence, so if that kind of stuff easily offends you, stay away. Otherwise, enjoy, it’s fun in a campy B-movie kind of way.

The new series is very liberal...the classic series not so much.

We are huge Dr. Who and Torchwood fans! We are anxiously awaiting the U.S. showing of this series, slated to begin next Monday, July 20.

The mini-series starts Monday 20th, but the usual season airs on Saturdays on BBC America - do you get that on cable?

After your good friend Capt Jack has helped you out over the years....you disregard him so casually? ;^)

Too bad it’s also the gayest show on TV.

Doctor Who is anti-gun but as the episode Stolen Earth/Journey’s End his hypocrisy is exposed to himself when Daleks shove it in his face how the humans do the dirty work for him.

In one way Dr. Who is not that liberal in the sense that when he goes back in time there is not the condesencion of the past and how people might of been different then. More often than not its characters from the past who help save the day. Definately a big improvement over Star Trek TNG etc.

The classic series did have a few pro-lefty episodes, most of them during the Pertwee era, possibly to appeal to the counter-culture element in the viewership. They did try and work in some largely plot-irrelevent liberal moralizing into the scripts from Davison on as the quality of the show dropped.

Have you watched all the gay shows to be sure?

True...but compared to the new series it was tolerable. RTD destroyed this new series in so many ways...from the catch-all, solve all use of the sonic screwdriver to all the gay references...thank god he has left the show.

Oh and Rose Tyler...worst companion ever...

IT’s readily available on all the usual torrent sites, if you can’t wait until next week. . .
