"Next shelf down, to your right. No, over. Yeah, that."
i've been to too many gun shops that are just as bad. i hate going into a gunshop and asking for .38 super and getting "corrected" because the guy thinks i want .38 special.

Okay; that also makes a certain amount of sense.
Is it limited to air-softs or is it applied to any spring-piston style air-gun?

That’s an exceptionally clean C96! Thanks for posting.

Yea, my kind of thread. I am sick and tired of everything being MJ this and MJ that. Time to have some manly man threads going here rather than everything being about some perverted weirdo. We never heard anything about HIS gun collection.

A "shotty" is a shotgun in "gangsta-speak". Yes, I've also heard gankstas call a shotgun "Da Gauge" and a pistol a "Gat".
I kinda prefer 40's slang.. like ROSCOE and HEATER or the Old West HOG LEG lol.

"...magazines vs. clips..."
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Reading "clips" in the newspaper makes me nuts.

And while you’re at it, maybe your revolver really shoots .45 Colt/.45 Auto.

So, when did this differentiation between pistol and revolver come into usage, and does it REALLY matter? Thanks. It's not a critical difference, but if you're around people that are sticklers for technical accuracy, it helps to differentiate between them.
The term "handguns" can be used to refer to revolvers and semi-auto pistols in the aggregate, but when referring to them individually, I like to used the proper terms. I even go so far as to specify DA or SA when talking about revolvers.
To: Disambiguator
I even go so far as to specify DA or SA I'm sure my 1911 style Llama (a good one) in .380 is SA. I have no idea whether my carry revolver (inherited from grandad) is SA or DA. The thumb on the hammer cocks it as it clears leather. It's automajik. What is the point of DA?

There’s another reason. Newbies have enough trouble getting an understanding of firearms. There’s no reason to further confuse anyone just because someone wants to sound like an expert.
One of my first purchases was the book “Cartridges of the World”. When I found out there was half a dozen copies at a half price bookstore I bought them all. I sold them at cost to my friends. The only problem I found was there is never a listing for 4MM rimfire Flobert.

Theres no reason to further confuse anyone just because someone wants to sound like an expert.I don't do it to "sound like an expert," but to help newbies better understand the things. I'm an NRA instructor with 16 years experience, so I've done quite a bit of that. The DA/SA difference is not a difficult concept, if explained properly.

Double action or single action

Um... I’m not sure, but wouldn’t a revolver be one that has a revolving mechanism to present the cartridge to the firing pin and barrel? Then everything else would be a pistol? Dueling pistols were just one shot, right?
