No. Those are not the people to whom I am referring, Chip. They are not going to throw in with the Dems. They want a viable, credible conservative they can support.

the 2012 election isnt for 3 years.

so you write her off now? doesnt make any sense

if SP isnt a success in her next phase, I doubt she will run for the nomination. The crap she puts up with, she’ll run for the nomination only with a high chance of success, say higher than any of those who ran last time

Read the Communist Manifesto and talk to the average Democrat voter. They want most of the 10 measures listed at the end of Section II. Listen to a Democrat politician. They promise most of the 10 measures.

The only 52-ers that didn’t vote for Marxism (most without even knowing what that means) were the ones that voted for Obama’s race. And many of those voted for both.

Of course I presented a false choice. I presented the extremes. But, as a great Conservative once said, “I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!”

"If the only way that we can “win” is to tear down any true conservative candidate and to run to the left, then why fight it? The people have spoken and they demand Marxism."

I don't think the "people" have chosen Marxism. The "people" couldn't even begin to describe what Marxism, Socialism or any other "ism" actually is. The people are sheeple.

They voted for Barack Obama, because A) They've forgotten what miser comes with unchecked Democrat rule (see Jimmah Carter). And B) more importantly, they voted for Obama because he was younger than the dinosaur we put up, and face it, he delivers a great prepared text. It also helped that he was hip, good looking, tall and skinny, and black and loved by the media.

Make no mistake, the last election had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the American people selecting one political ideology over another. Elections, especially elections with no incumbent, are strictly a popularity contest, not a referendum of governing principles, tax or spending policies or national defense.

The next election will be ENTIRELY about Barack Obama job performance, and specifically about his performance with the US economy (barring another national tragedy due to terror). If Obama manages to keep inflation at bay, at doesn't let unemployment get any higher than it is, he'll be reelected. If things are worse, with double digit inflation, during the next election, Obama is toast, so long as the the Republicans don't put up a candidate that can be painted as clownish and completely unqualified.

And for that reason, I don't entirely discount Palin's ability to regroup in time for 2012. I just think it's unlikely - but not impossible.

Show me how “Swimmer” has hurt Ted Kennedy in the least.

It kept him from ever being President. (Or even getting nominated -- if not for that albatross, I think he would have succeeded in knocking the Peanut Man off the ticket, though he still would have lost the general election.)

That would be a great idea if she would take over from Michael Steele. How long is his term for? Think of all the good she could do in that position? She would see to it that only good conservative candidates run for all offices, and she would be great in the fundraising arena. Then after we get more conservative Repubs in office from school boards up to the higher levels, she would be in a better position to run for national office again.

I’m so disgusted with the GOP. I am so close to jumping on the 3rd party bandwagon, although I know that’s a dangerous gambit, and I’ve always advocated against it. I just hate what the “leadership” in the GOP is doing...This is as bad as when I was a kid living in the deep South and I realized even though there were plenty of conservative democrats left in those days, the party leadership had moved way to the left...I feel abandoned again...and the GOP elite biting at Palin just makes that feeling worse...

I agree with you. I hope she has strong, supportive and very wise advisors. I do not think she has even made that decision yet. I do not even think that is in the front of what she is thinking now. I think she is taking advantage of a window of opportunity to provide for her family right now with a book and the speaking circuit. And I think that is wise and I do not blame her for that. But yes, I am of the mind she will not be a viable candidate in 2012. Things could certainly change and I agree with you..If she does not find success between now and then, she wont run.

It would be very surprising if Sarah Palin actually aspired to run for President. She is not positioning herself for such a run, IMHO, she is clearing the deck to help actual conservatives take back the House and Senate, if the Pubby leadership has the good sense to allow her the visibility in individual campaigns.

Don’t Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest! if you must; but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don’t give up, though the pace seems slow;
You might succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor’s cup.
And he learned too late, when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out;
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit;
It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.

Why so dismiss SP at least until your white knight appears on the horizon?

That's the problem with too many of us. We're looking for a white knight. White knights and black knights only appear in fairy tales. Real people exist in shades of gray, and in no human endeavor is this more true than in politics.

You’re right. But if you read them the 10 measures in the Communist Manifesto without giving the source, most Democrats (and way too many Republicans) would agree with most. They have chosen Marxism and they don’t even know it.
