Could be great.
But no word yet on the cost.

Very happy with my Apple iPhone. Can use it just about anywhere..or only a few miles later (always a temporary dead zone--valley between hill, mountains. Was easy to use overseas where most would visit. I do not live within a city... A mini computer in hand. Dependable.

A few more months. Plus looks like their 1st market would be 1st responders just in case a Katrina-like disaster happens and dead zones occur.

Maybe it comes with a marmoset.

I love the iPhone too.
But take heart, according to the article:
“....The chip used in the phone is the same as the one used in Apple’s popular iPhone, which means that Apple wouldn’t have to start from scratch if, say, the company wanted to make an iPhone compatible with the service.”

I got to work on Terrestar for a while. It was going to be an absolutely massive satellite. It will be interesting to see if the antenna deploys correctly.
Congratulations to the Loral team. Terrestar launched successfully today from South America. I think that a Loral-built Sirius/XM satellite also launched successfully today in Russia.

"Very happy with my Apple iPhone. Can use it just about anywhere" I am happy to hear that you have such coverage.....but allow me to say that we have a little get-away cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains just 2 hours from Atlanta and we have NO cell coverage there. What you have to understand is that there is much of the country without i-phone coverage!!!!!!!! We paid over $200 extra to have a phone that can link into a satellite connection to phone 911 in case of a dire emergency like when hubby is on the tractor plowing the field, etc. (911 is the ONLY number it will do on the satellite connection though.
Perhaps satellite service will be welcomed by many people who the cell towers have written off as "not enough profit to be concerned with". And I hope the satellite services put the cell tower guys out of business or at least give them fits!!!!!

I’m still wondering HOW the antenna deploys...
