I swear sometimes I can hear them laughing behind my back. That's because it is. They're incredibly smart dogs. My neighbor a few doors down has one, it's constantly 'rounding up her kids' in the back yard. It's almost comical to watch.

I'm glad your experiences with poodles were much better than mine. We've owned just one but he was a nightmare. Friends and relatives had the same misfortune with theirs. It's been all retrievers and German Shepherds since.

Border Collies are pretty smart - ours used to open the door, so you had to lock it if you didn’t want her free to leave. Of course, she was treated well, so she didn’t leave...
And no Border Collies are liberal. They exist to work - the antithesis of a liberal!

Border Collies also know what to do when you piss off a German Shepherd...

German is the perfect language for dog commands-sharp, concise pronunciation so that dogs can distinguish words.

I think my lab may be a liberal, he is really into recycling.....he likes to eat his own poo.... One of our dogs vomitted last week and the vomit smelled like feces. I was worried that she might be backed up so I researched online and the first possible cause listed was that the dog had been eating poop. Knowing that idiot dog's epicurean preferences, I should have figured it out myself.

I used to play Frisbee a lot (mostly ultimate but sometimes freestyle) and they would always have dog competitions at the various tournaments. I may have seen a Catahoula Leopard then but didn't realize it. I do remember the best Frisbee dog I'd ever seen being a whippet. Had never heard of or seen one of them either until then.

I’m conflicted as to whether my Chihuahua is brilliant or a complete retard...
Every morning, he take my left shoe and hides it in a different place. Right now I’m leaning towards retard, but if I end up getting diagnosed with gangrene in that foot, I’m going to go with genius.

Ok, perhaps as a
breed the Australian Cattle dog is not in the top 5, but an individual Heeler was most certainly one of the most intelligent dogs that ever lived.

Australian Cattle Dog/Heeler is ranked #10, so they are pretty high up on the list.

Dobes are fantastic. Need a strong owner, as we are finding, but they love rough play and are practically fearless. Does yours “smile”? Love those Dobe “smiles”!
