That time of silence to honor the military during the race was so amazing, here it is again if anyone wants to see it.
Chocolate prefaced this by saying that he is a big Dale Jr fan and is personal friends with Dale Jr and all of those guys over there on the 88 car. He wants nothing more than to see them succeed, winning races and championships.
He said to put it honest, they are running like crap and changes need to be made. However, all of the people calling for a crew chief change were completely off base. He said he has been around this sport long enough to know. That team has major problems but they go much much much deeper than the crew chief and driver. He said changes need to be made in the area of where the cars are built. He said there is a fundamental problem that runs deep into the shop and has nothing to doe with Tony Jr.
They need to change around engineers, car chiefs, people around Tony Jr who have a hand in the building and setups of the car. He said go on and make a crew chief change...I promise you that you will not like the results. Replacing Tony Jr won’t change a thing. They will be no better off then they are now. He said as a matter of fact, as he has seen at RCR, it will probably make it worse. He said because then Dale Jr won’t have that person who he can trust and communicate well with in Tony Jr and it will snowball from there. He said he has seen this play out before and it will not be pretty.
He said he knew there were major problems but they just have to figure out the right way to fix it. He said everybody is running around with all of these opinions but they do not have any better ideas on a solution or how to fix it. Everybody just needs to calm down and not jump the gun with replacing Tony Jr because he truly believes that is a huge mistake.
Changes are needed but in the way of engineers and people who work directly on the car...not in the area of crew chief. He said the problems run so deep...that is the only way you will ever fix it and make it better
Carl Edwards i have some cool sponsors guys...yesterdays commercial shoot was fun. the whole crew was great even though they had to change locations at the last minute bc of the coke 600 delay. it was hot and they had to put up with a bunch of goof-offs (gillette young guns) for ten hours! we had a world class director in peter farrelly (dumb and dumber, something about mary,etc..) gonna be some funny stuff at gillette.com
I hope these pics will stick, I didn't feel like doing the photobucket thing.
Just don’t put my driver in that car...
and don’t put my crew chief on that car..
and don’t put my pit crew on that car...
and don’t put my engineers on that car...
Yes!

Eury Jr. out as crew chief for slumping Earnhardt

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Dale Earnhardt Jr. will have a new crew chief starting with this weekend’s race at Dover because of a slump that has dragged deep into the season.
Tony Eury Jr. was removed as crew chief of Earnhardt’s No. 88 team Thursday. The two are cousins and have worked together during Earnhardt’s entire career.
“It seemed the harder we pushed, the more it unraveled,” team owner Rick Hendrick told The Associated Press.

From Hendrick Motorsports Website:
Hendrick Motorsports today named Lance McGrew as interim crew chief of the #88 Sprint Cup Series team of driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. beginning with the June 7 event at Pocono Raceway. Team manager Brian Whitesell will lead the team this weekend at Dover
Our performance hasnt been where it should be, said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. Its impossible to pin that on any one factor, but a change is the right decision at this point. We have a plan in place, and were going to move forward with it. Whitesell and Rex Stump, Hendrick Motorsports lead chassis engineer, have been assigned to support McGrew on a full-time basis. Whitesell, who won two of seven races as Jeff Gordons interim crew chief in 1999, will join McGrew and team engineer Tom Stewart on the #88 pit box to assist with race strategy.
Were going to put our full resources toward improving the situation and winning races, Hendrick said. Its going to be a collective effort that includes all of our drivers, all of our crew chiefs and all of our engineers. Everyone in our company will be involved on some level. Tony Eury Jr. will move from the crew chief position into a key role with Hendrick Motorsports research and development group. Eury posted one victory, one pole position, 19 top-10 finishes and 11 top-fives in 48 races with the #88 team.
I have mixed feelings, and thats just natural, Eury said. But I enjoy working at Hendrick Motorsports, and this is where I want to be. Ill do whatever I can to help all of our teams and try to be a part of another championship. I think a new challenge will be good.
McGrew, 41, earned the 2003 Nationwide Series championship with driver Brian Vickers. He won the October 2006 Sprint Cup race with Vickers at Talladega, and most recently led Cup rookie #25-Brad Keselowski to a seventh-place finish May 9 at Darlington. As a crew chief, McGrew has posted victories in all three of NASCARs major touring series: Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck. He has won races with drivers Vickers, Jeff Gordon, Ricky Hendrick, Kyle Busch, Mark Martin and most recently Tony Stewart Feb. 14 at Daytona Beach.
I had a premonition something was going to happen before the Charlotte race. Jr's car during that race was an embarrassment. Maybe Tony did WD-40 the tars. Either that or they were dirt-track tars cause he sure was dirt-trackin.
It will be interesting to hear Jr’s reaction, both on “mike” and off, to the change.

So, does the 88 get “The Call” this weekend?
That reminds me... Hey Nork, did you ever get Grammies kaber out of your pool?
Hey, that was my suggestion on the last NASCAR thread! :-)
It may take more than three days to get this turned around. That said, ...
