I know. I love Yeats. Hubby and I went to Greece a couple of years ago and met this great old gent from Dublin. His name was George, so hubby just called him “George from Dublin” throughout the entire vaca. Anyway, he was a retired barrister and quite brilliant and was near 90 years old. He could recite Yeats by heart. When I told him I loved Yeats, he launched into several and I got a lump in my throat. He had that beautiful Irish brogue too.

He said his mother knew Yeats and that Yeats was in love with this woman who spurned him and this unrequited love was the catalyst for many of his poems.

This is my absolute FAVE:

He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet;
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams

Yeats (1899)

Gives me goosebumps every time.

Oh how I know what you mean. I honestly can’t imagine life without my husband. I think it’d be best if I went first. I don’t always cherish every day (I’m a dummy) but I cherish him with all my heart.

“I cherish every day we have together.”

You are very fortunate. God bless.

That picture is so neat. Thanks for posting. Boy they don’t look as old as they are. He especially looks younger. God Bless them.

It could be knowing they both went at the same time, but still might be hard.

To have loved for so many years...is only a dream to a lot of us. I’m glad God saw fit to keep them together through life & through death. To know that they are still walking together, hand in hand, can bring tears of joy along with the tears of grief.

My deepest condolances to their loved ones.

One of my deepest fears is that one of my parents will substantially outlive the other. I am an only child and while I would be blessed to care for either one, I doubt it would ever be more than tolerable for I or my parent.

On the other hand....
My now ex husband and I were married for 16 years until his adultery destroyed the marriage. While we were married I was so very afraid that he would die. Now that we’re divorced, I’m afraid he won’t.
