YUP. Have you seen him?
Thanks for posting this! I enjoyed seeing the judges response.
If you can’t watch that whole video without tearing up just a bit you don’t have a heart.
Amazing and I wish her luck.
Elaine Paige indeed.
OOps, I mean if you CAN watch it...
Well, she does pretty well despite it. Good for her!
I loved seeing the smile break out on Simon's face...more than once!
What would this woman do with Phantom of the Opera?!
I can hear her just fine but for some reason my computer screen gets all blurry about halfway through. ;)
Thanks for posting this.
Incredible.
At about the 4 minute mark, toward the end of the song, she puts such feeling into lyric:
I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed
I wondered if his smile at that point was the realization that the woman can not only sing, but is a natural at putting genuine emotion into the song.
On the other hand, he might be smiling because he's seeing dollar signs, LOL.
I think it's a little of both....the first smile was "dayum, she can sing!" and the second little smile.....you could almost see the dollar signs in his eyes! heh
What a gift! As one of the judges said, it was a privilage just to listen to her.
Very impressive! It did make one tear up.
However, I found the sniggers and sneers of the judges, before she performed, to be rude and unprofessional.
Regardless of what they expected from her, a contestant deserves common courtesy up front.
As I wipe my eyes.............
“It went down a bomb,” says delighted Susan...
When Susan Boyle bounded onto the Glasgow stage there werent many in the three thousand-strong audience that gave her a chance of being any good.
When she informed the crowd that she wanted to be a singer like Elaine Paige the judges raised their collective eyebrows and the audience burst into uproar and laughter.
First impressions, as Amanda Holden later pointed out, can be wholly misleading, and when Susan finished her rendition of I Dreamed A Dream she looked into the audience to discover nobody was laughing at her anymore.
When I opened my mouth and began to sing I won over my doubters. Being on that stage and being on the other end of that reception was absolutely fantastic. It went down a bomb”.
Giggling and bashful, she remembered her standing ovation, saying: “As soon as everyone stood up I was thinking, there must be fivers underneath that seat. There must have been money somewhere especially for the judges to do it. Piers Morgan as well”!
“I was pole-axed with joy when I came off.
And recalling what the judges told her, Susan smiled again. “The judges comments were wonderful; they made me feel like I can actually achieve something.”
“Piers Morgan said hed like to see a lot more of Susan Boyle. Amanda, she wasnt very sure to begin with, but she changed her mind. She said all ‘I can say is just ‘wow’’. Simon just laughed. Hes a good guy, him”.
In fact, there are rumours that Simon and Susan have since chatted about the possibility of a much dreamed-of record deal.
Susan grinned, “The goal is to get out there, make a record, and hopefully make other people happy.
But the ultimate wish for Susan is to be accepted by people as a performer.
If that happens, she smiles with a twinkle in her eye, Ill be one happy lady!
Might be something in that, "The meek shall inherit the Earth"
Simon would make an excellent Professor Higgins.
Thanks for the article.
Like Simon said “This is what the show is all about. The little guy winning onece in a while.” I absolutely went nuts when Paul Potts sang. I could not believe that that song was coming out of his mouth. Then I read about how he was picked on in school and Opera was all he had.
“What would this woman do with Phantom of the Opera?!”
Don’t know, but I would pay to find out.
I think the difference between “Britain’s Got Talent” and “American Idol” is that the performers on AI are, to a large degree, judged more on their looks and physical appearance and attributes than they are on their artistic talent.
I truly believe that neither Paul Potts nor Susan Boyle would have made it beyond the second or third round on AI, due mainly to their appearance (though for singing ability they are light years beyond most of the AI contestants).
It’s sad, really.
Speaking of sadness: “I Dreamed A Dream” is one of the saddest, most poignant songs in theatre. Susan Boyle’s performance of that song was flawless, and she brought out the poignancy like a true star. It was for me, listening to it and watching it, an eye-misting four minutes.
