For my first post on Free Republic, I’m having trouble with all this puke I just I just spewed on my keyboard after watching that...
I love what this Brit had to say in the comment section:
bloody hell, i cant believe what i’m hearing from this guy.
even as an atheist myself, i know full well that America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles and has that philosophy at its VERY CORE...
Sure , America is the land of the free , and there is no state sponsored religion - but Christianity is utterly central to what America is.
To deny that is to live in a fantasy land. This president is seriously deluded...
I thought you were joking. I should have known better.
This is Holy Week and Obama throws this slap into the face of a Just God? Zero just spit at every single Christian in the US. This is no mistaken timing. It is deliberate.
I’d watch for incoming, frankly.
First abortion, then repeal of conscience rights, now this?
Zero can mock Christ at every turn, but God will not be mocked.
He wishes it were not a Christian nation. Persecutions of Christians notwithstanding, non Christians fare the worst in an antechristian world.
I wish Obama good luck with his silly promises, defensiveness, and racist stupid and unecessary force fed snobisms. Nothing like the yoke of God truly removed to create the very hell they claim God makes unfair.
Perfect time for popcorn as things heat up.
I found it interesting that the Pledge of Allegiance
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands: one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
only included the words “under God” after 1954. From its inception in 1892 to that year, it did not include these words.
Similarly, the U.S. Constitution does not mention anything about America being a Christian or Judeao-Christian nation; however, George Washington spoke often about the blessings of service to God and this became a theme of American history throughout, together with a recognition of freedom of religion.
Obama’s implied view that the Muslim faith is somehow equal to America’s Christian or Judeao-Christian foundations and cultural heritage would strike many as being absurd in the extreme. If he gives his own family as an example of this contribution he is adding a further level of absurdity.
America has become associated with human liberty primarily through its strong belief in God (”In God we trust” and not just any God). For this poseur of uncertain origins to suggest otherwise is not only an affront to God, it is an affront to the American people and all others around the world who value human freedom.
The idea of a partnership between America and Islam is about as crazy an idea as anyone has ever suggested, let alone an American president. What’s next, a visit to Sicily and an appeal for co-operation with the Cosa Nostra? At least they have good wine.
From Wikipedia:
Treaty of Tripoli, Ratified June 10th, 1797, Article XI:
As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.
The United States is NOT a christian nation.
