If she’s a smoker, then she’s toast.
Sad about hear about Farrah Fawcett though. Never thought she was all that, but presumably a decent human being not deserving of some of the speculation made on this thread about past behavior. I hope her future brings her peace and comfort.
Aren’t we all?
Bainbridge, I think you should revisit your plan to announce to the world everywhere you go that cervical cancer is caused by venereal disease, until you are 100% certain that it’s fact. It’s just my opinion. You’ve followed this, in my acse, with a denigration of anyone that says ‘hey, wait a minute. Prove that’s factual.’ Your honest position here seems (inexplicably) to be that I’m somehow being cruel to you. Spend your free time the way you wish, but know that some of us think you’re being ridiculous.
Brytlea, that might prove to be the case. VD is certainly something to avoid. I will not give my young daughters the HPV vaccine on these hunches, I’ll instead educate them on the consequences of the behaviors.
I’m not suggesting you give your girls the vaccine. There are many reasons for kids to stay away from premarital sex, not the least of which is the emotional turmoil it causes.
I don’t know if the studies done on HPV have been good, but there does appear to be a link. Unfortunately, if this is the case, it is so rampant among the younger population that even girls who don’t have sex before marriage could be at risk if they don’t marry a fella who also kept himself pure. Of course, I don’t think people are animals and it IS quite possible to avoid premarital sex.
At any rate, I don’t know how Farrah got this sort of cancer, and I wish her well.
You said a mouthful. One of my professors in one of my medical classes had said that the greatest single factor for longevity is “genetics,” which is completely out of our control. Therefore, we need to control what we can and there are a lot of things we can do to help/hurt ourselves.
I am no perfect specimen but I do try to eat healthy and, except for recently, have always walked, done aerobics, or done some form of aerobic physical exercise on a regular basis.
IMO y'all should lay off the self righteous crap. Fact is, she's at the age where things like that start making life tough for all kinds of folks with relatively little discrimination based on what one may or may not have done throughout their lives.
When you find yourself on your deathbed, as well you might at any time, how'd you like your "prayer thread" spiked with people who have absolutely no knowledge of the facts saying it's your fault because you liked it in the kazoo.
I am not doing anything but pointing out an important piece
of information that many, even here, are willfully denying.
Very strange.
I am not going to bother with this anymore.

Pick your parents wisely... ;)
Google "The Howard Families."
Prayers for Farrah!

“Not being a Catholic, I’m not quite sure, but am I going to Hell for this fantasy?”
Probably should plan on packing for warm weather. Justa thought.
Re: “ Do they mean colon cancer? Anyway, sad.”
**********
Very sad indeed — Farrah is an icon of the seventies — how many males had that red swimsuit poster of her on their walls back in the day, eh?
As for her cancer, it’s rarer than typical colon cancer, but seems to be even more difficult to get rid of — I’m sorry to say it does not look good for her despite a couple of reports that she is doing great.
My relative, a 50 year old when she died, had all sorts of treatments similar to Farrah’s, but they were for appendiceal/colon cancer that metastasized and she lasted just under three years. She was in and out of the hospital for several months before going home with hospice care.
I sure hope Farrah beats this, but I fear the worst.
Re: “HPV virus is a one of the cause of Anal cancers. NNot pretty is it.”
**************
Yes, ONE of the causes, but just one of many. BTW, statistics show that 80% of women age 50 or over, who have ever been sexually active, have carried some form of HPV, many without ever knowing it.
If Farrah’s type of cancer was usually caused by HPV, we’d be seeing millions more cases of this kind.
Re: “http://womenshealth.about.com/cs/cervicalcancer/a/hpvcervcancercn.htm
Go read the first paragraph: HPV causes 100 % of the cervical cancer cases.
I was told this by 2 ob/gyns in the past 24 years.”

You would do well to keep on reading — there are MANY “versions” of HPV and often they do not cause cervical cancer, so please don’t paint all of this with such a broad brush. Many forms of HPV show up, disappear on their own (though HPV virus NEVER leaves the body, just like the chicken pox virus never leaves the body)and cause no trouble whatsoever.
ALL types of HPV do not cause cervical or other cancer.
Why? Who are the Howard Families?
One, you didn't Google it.
Two, you aren't a Sci-Fi fan.
You are right on both counts!!!
It sounds like a great plan to me. In the 19th century marriages were still arranged by parents so this concept is not that far-fetched.
