i went nuts and bought 2 humongous stiff nylon type beach bags for 10 dollars and use them for my shopping. they work great and will probably last longer than i will. got em at walmart and found they are 3 times the size of the reusable grocery bags sold there.
Exactly. That is why the paper bags, and then plastic bags were put into use in the first place. I line mine with paper bags which I change out regularly, and take a perverse delight in demanding that the stores provide them to me. Anyone who has ever had a cut-up raw chicken leak into their bag knows what I am talking about.
They must be washed and sanitized- causing water pollution and energy waste. One place I frequent will no longer offer any bags, but would like you to use an empty shipping box, which they pile up by the door. But years ago, when I worked in food retail, we bundled and recycled cardboard boxes immediately, since they were known cockroach havens.
