Then we found Daisy. Not found, as on the street, but a friend of a friend heard that we were looking, and Daisy's owner was looking to find her a home. She's an 8 month old fawn Boxer, and we said, "sure, we'd love to give her a home."
The Sheltie was a little irked at first, but now is acting like mama dog - and Daisy seems to accept that Tango is the alpha dog. The cats...well, Daisy sees them walk by and goes "Eh?" In the meantime, the felines are on DEFCON 1 - tails at full fluff, and it sounds like a house full of (despite the fact that there's only 2) leaky steam pipes.
How does Daisy get on with the kids? The sixteen year old seems disinterested - but I caught her with the dog on her bed, petting her - which says a lot.
Kayleigh (all of 15 months and 3 days today) was afraid at first - can't blame her. She's used to a little Sheltie that does its best to ignore her. Daisy on the other hand saw the baby and went right after her. Kisses all over, and sitting at the feet of whoever she was trying to climb up on to escape from the dog. When she finally calmed down, she did the best she could to pet her, and Daisy loved it.
We now have an organic baby monitor. When Kayleigh started to cry this morning while I was making coffee - Daisy came into the kitchen, whined at me, and then ran down the hall to the baby's room. She came in the room while I gave Kayleigh her breakfast and changed her.
Anyway - I've got more to type, but not the time to type it. I'll write more later, if you'd like, but in the meantime, here are some pictures:
Beautiful and adorable. You’re blessed to have her and she’s blessed to have you.
aw, she looks like my first girl, Penny. Boxers are wonderful with kids- the females are very protective! Strangers approaching the baby beware!
Thanks for sharing
She’s beautiful, I’m sure she’ll be more than you expect, in a good way!
OMG! What a beautiful boxer. Congratulations. She reminds me of the boxer that I owned. I shouldn’t really give congrats though. You do not own your boxer anymore. It now owns you. You and your family now belong primarily to the boxer. It will do everything it can to make sure that you are OK and are doing well. There will be a chain of ownership, starting with your 15 month old, then the 16 year old, and finally, you.
Good luck and enjoy.
She’s beautiful and sounds like she’s very smart. Anymore when I hear of dogs needing homes I think that they’re waiting for their Mom and Dad to find them. It sounds like you’ve finally found her.
Beautiful coloring! And I just love Boxers that don’t have their ears done.
Congratulations.
So precious! And smaller than I expected of an 8-m.o.
I had a little chuckle at your mentioning how the sheltie tries to ignore your youngest daughter. A friend of mine had a sheltie of her own after growing up with a series of collies. Totally different dogs, an even wider gulf in disposition than in size!
Really good that you got a kid-oriented doggie. She and Kayleigh will treasure each other’s friendship!
Your description of the cats at DEFCON 1 was too funny...as was the visual I had! Thanks for the update...I’ll look at the pictures tonight!
Boxers, always ready, never sure of what.
It looks like you have been infected with Boxeritis, a rare disease that has no known cure. On your deathbed friends, family, and five boxers will surely be grieving.
she loved playing ball in the back yard. played hard, but never got mean.
amazing with kids. my niece/nephew would do normal kid things to the dog, but she was great.
unfortunately, she came down with cancer that spread very quickly throughout her body and they had to put her down a couple months ago.
Doggie ping!!!
(Follow up to a previous doggie ping)...
Wasn’t this posted before.
Have had 3 boxers at a very young age and loved them.
She is beautiful. Too bad about Bruce; but there are those that lie unfortunately.
Happy Boxing. Sounds like pecking order has begun. I have 5 dogs from 120 lbs to 27 lbs. 3 of them are in the hundred lb range. My 55 lb cattledog rules the roost. She is alpha dog female. My only male is of course the alpha male.
I totally understand the making God laugh line.
My children are 27, 24, 7 and 5, and we have a 4 yr old and 6 month old grand-daughter. My two youngest are Chinese and I have a 2 t-shirt that says “I AM the real Mom!”
Beautiful puppy. I know you are going to love her.
Perusing the archieves...How’s your boxer working out?
