Thanks for the tip. Wife unit and I bought two cheap late model unlocked blackberries just for travel. (I’ll sometimes join her on her business trips and be touring while she is in meetings.) We’ll pop in a local SIM chip of the lowest denomination and communicate mostly by text. If we lost one of these it would be no big deal.

I agree it is the low tech version of the idiot light and only a rough metric (I have an undergrad in EE), but I expect a company to stand by the word of it’s agents and if they are willing to make a diagnosis and promise based on a poor indicator (and I told them it may have gotten wet) then they should eat the costs when they are wrong.

Frankly, even the slightest moisture can hurt a phone (like most electronics).

Not mine. :). You can drop it in the pool and it'll ring under water. Casio Gz'one. Works great.

"I see a Nokia ad involving a fish......"

Or at least re-labeling and calling it the "Jonah" model.

“I kept calling it but I gave up hope after a couple of days.”

“I’ll bet that annoyed the cod!”

Especially if the phone was on vibrate!

And knocking up a girl over there isn’t at all the same as here.

Mmmm, why am I dubious? Why would a cod swallow a phone and how does any cell phone survive days in salt water?

Or his phone bill next month when he finds out the fish went back & forth to France three times and he is hit with roaming charges.

The English deliberately pick different words for simple things just to annoy us I swear.

Liberals everywhere do that. Nothing is ever good enough for them; especially if lots of regular folks adopt a catchphrase.

One of my pet peeves: First we had "speed bumps" here in the U.S.; now we have "speed humps" and "traffic calming." Grrrr.

They probably found the cod washed up on the beach because it had a heart attack.

I ruined my daughter’s cell phone by just spilling a small amount of soft drink on it. I also found out that it had a “tell tale” on it that showed the phone company that it had been wet.

“May I have your attention please... Will Mr. John Cameron Swayze please pick up the nearest white page phone... Mr. Swayze.”

You have to be pretty old to remember that one!
