A damn shame they don’t just sell discounted Elk tags for that. They would have more applicants than they know what to do with.
On the bright side, the wolves will have plenty of meat to scavenge and make it through the winter in great shape. /s

In a random testing last year of 117 elk at the park, 11 percent had CWD. Those animals were removed and killed.
Of the four elk culled in the new program, two have tested negative for CWD. Tests continue for the third elk and for the elk killed Wednesday.

What until PETA, the Defenders of Wildlife and the World Wild Life Federation hear about this! They will be apoplectic.

Based on your info, prognosis looks good. I contemplated applying for a tag in Wyoming, New Mexico or Colorado several years ago when the economy was a little better. Unfortunately, news broke out about CWD so I put the hunt on the back burner. Based upon my current portfolios, the prospective hunt will have to stay there awhile.

Boo frickin hoo to PETA and company. God created some anminals for consumption, not as pets. Perhaps someone should explain that to the PETA crowd. On second thought, it would go over their heads because they don’t believe in God in the first place.

Wait until PETA, the Defenders of Wildlife and the World Wild Life Federation hear about this! They will be apoplectic. P Diddy and his posse will take care of 'em.

On the bright side, the wolves will have plenty of meat to scavenge and make it through the winter in great shape.I don't believe the gray wolf has been re-introduced into Rocky Mountain National Park. (Yet.) I, of course, hope it is NEVER re-introduced there. But I'm not in charge.

Last year the National Park Service under estimated the Elk population in Rocky Mountain National Park by 1000 animals which would have reduced the number to be killed. The state of colorado issued few elk licenses to hunters because of the mistake and said that they wanted to “build the herd”. Now the herd will gain hundreds of animals over the existing excess but the hunters that brought the elk out of extinction will not get any of the harvest.

PETA and friends are not happy.PETA and friends would rather manage wildlife from their offices with lawsuits, they'll be disappointed and poorer should they file one on this.
I'm sure they're also saddened that they people getting the meat through the lottery are not about to become vegetarians. LOL!

AC, letting hunters buy permits would be the common sense thing to do, but we are talking about federal govt. here, so it can’t be done.
I get so tired of hearing sob stories about how the U.S. Forests and national parks are starving for funding, and then reading things like this.
Here in the Great Smoky National Park we have a major problem with feral hog/European boar. Since hunting is not legal in the park, they have to hire sharpshooters to come in an kill these.
I also visited a national park on the Mexico/Texas border once (surrounding Lake Amistad) and the deer were so overpopulated I’d find huge piles of carcuses while hiking. They were starving to death. It was one of the most heartbreaking sights I’ve ever seen.
