Funny how I’m seeing all these “Taras” now. My DOG (6yo) is Tara; maybe I’ll name my next elephant Bella My LATE Golden was named "Terra". My son got her as a pup when he was a student at Texas Tech and shipped her to me in Seattle where I lived at the time. She was born and bred in El Paso. He never would tell me why he chose the name, and I always assumed she was named after the Lubbock soil which is yellowish red.

:)

I’ve largely call-named many of my pets for Gone With the Wind people (and now, estates).

However, Tara’s official name is “Terra Maria”, using the Latin for earth/land as well as Maria/Mary. IOW, the Latin name of Maryland.
