The best three Star Trek movies are, of course, the Wrath of Khan, the Voyage Home and Galaxy Quest.

The good doctor...

That's where I started watching, and was a loyal viewer. 'Threw out the TV awhile after the show got a new Dr. Who.

Sometimes it was difficult to follow: should have had subtitles. :)

Yeah, I know it’s rhetorical, but you’re really making me feel old, especially considering that I’m younger than this guy and I was in the target audience for Buffy (and he probably was too)! Although, it’s not THAT old, it only ended in 2003 IIRC...

Although, I have to disagree with your assessment. My reaction on seeing that picture is definitely nothing like ‘ewww’ =P and from what I could see of the BBC video, he looked like he’d do fine for the part. In any case, this is the biggest non-soap show in England, and Moffat could have probably gotten pretty much any English actor he wanted, so there’s got to be a good reason why he picked this guy.

On another note, I’m looking forward to Moffat taking over! No more little annoying ‘Look! This character is gay!’ moments, and lots more suspense and scary monsters! YAY!

I remember that great scene in Clerks 2. Absolutely nailed LOTR. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AxAEo3CWeq8

Check out a classic DW serial like Infero. It wil l have you hooked. Star Wars isn’t even Science Fiction. It’s a hokey Wild West shoot out in space.

Which of the new ones have you seen? The best of them are terrific and as good as any SF on TV. The old series wasn’t low budget by choice. They would have made them more slick if they ahd the money to do so.

Gridlock! That episode won an award from some Christian group for its positive portrayal of spirituality.

Doctor Who is lame to me. I remember when the original DW was on(60's or 70's my CRS is actiong up). I hated it and still do..to British for my Yank sensibilities.

yes I agree about star wars being wild west but if you check my name, Vaquero means Cowboy. (my favorite Star wars are episode 5 and 3...you know, the dark ones. I hate the boring ones(episode 1) and the cute ones ( ewoks need to be cooked for dinner...))

My favorite SF was Star Trek the original series and ‘Enterprise’( cause they have no wussy prime directive) and The second and last movies.....Wrath of Kahn was wonderful and it is surpassed by the new one, ‘Star Trek’ which I need to see again. the first 2 Alien movies were great...and my favorite books run from Azimov, Bradbury to Clarke, and Crichton.

Stuff I HATE Dr Who, Hitchhikers guide (direct ripoff of Venus on the Half Shell) and that Red Dwarf abomination.

You sound like you just don’t like the British approach to SF/Fantasy. DO you dislike Blake’s 7’ as well? In it’s 45 year history, DW has incorporated virtually every form of storytelling except musical comedy (but stay tuned!).

yes I dislike that one also.

I like AC Clarke’s stuff, he’s a Brit. 2001 was a movie that needed the book for a guide....but once read, the movie was excellent. (just watching that movie without understanding it was what acid heads here went to see in the late 60’s)

Sci Fi needs to be on film not video tape. or something else they do in England that still dumbfounds me, Video tape indoors and film outdoors....What the hell is that? (Python did an excellent job of spoofing that)

British SF is more like theater. And there’s a reason there aren’t many SF plays. The two don’t usually go well together.

I have friends in theater.

I try....really I do...but I don't like the majority of it. Call me a Philistine. I also dislike Jazz. I can listen to rock, blues, bluegrass, country, classical, swing, but my "intellectual" friends tell me I am a Philistine for not liking Jazz.... I just hate it and could really care less about what they think.

I watched the first 5 or 6 when the series first hit the Sci-Fi channel. I didn’t care for it much. Perhaps it’s gotten better. Dunno. I’ll check more out at some point I’m sure. Though, I did see the episode(s) concerning the death of the last Dalek and thought that one wasn’t half bad.

in retrospect the first season (with Eccleston) was the weakest of the new series. Check out the ones with Tennant.
