Interesting take. To me, he saw the cars go by, sirens blazing, and really realized that he was never going to see the street action ever again. He took out the gun, made everyone think he’s contemplating pulling a “Shane,” then chuckled and put the gun away as he walked off, as if to say, “It doesn’t matter. I’m free. I made it.”
Nah, Dutch ain’t a serial killer. It’s obvious the boy did it...he killed his friend, and another boy earlier. He then killed his mom and tried to frame Dutch for it.

I hope that is what the writers intended - I remember one episode where Dutch was going to do a "Vic Mackey" and plant evidence for a case where he was sure of the perp, and decided at the last minute not to. Dutch always seemed to rise above the fray (except for that cat deal).
Yeah, I see that too. In the end, I think that’s the way the writers wanted it-—a non-ending.
