Sadamm and every Muslim in Iraq was a weapon of Mass destruction. Plus Sadamm moved his wmds to Syria.
I believe you have expressed the nature of this recent election as it manifested on several levels. It is quite true, if the “Civil War” is so over, why is it such a relevant and active subject? < /retor-ques >
Much of the discussion on this thread continues to be race oriented because the slavery issue is so highly inflamable. I submit to you that even if slavery had not existed, the State’s Rights and tariff issues would have remained and the Civil War would have been inevitable. The fact that this recent election had a victor who is black is similarly irrelevant to this discussion. I am not concerned that he is black. I am rather proud that our country has come this far on that issue. What concerns me is that Obama is a Centralized Federal Government Socialist. It is this issue that has similarities in the causes of both the Civil and Revolutionary Wars
Excellent article
Great questions that display your knowledge in order to ask them. I would take a stab at answering a few but it is well past my bedtime!
DB... you are truly a gentleman.
Apparently you are not aware the NYC Democrats were Slaver sympathizers. Apparently you are not aware that the most fatal riots in American history was prepetrated by those Democrats murdering and killing almost at will for almost a week.
It is a historical fact that the federal government was controlled by the South for most of the time since the founding not an opinion. Look at who was on the Supreme Court, the presidents, the chairmen of the important Congressional committees. You need to learn real history and forget about the Lunatic Fringe School of Historical revisionism.
I read the article you posted and it is filled with little truth and lots of crap.
Your user name is appropriate.
When I am being told that tariffs are unconstitutional it comes naturally. The only requirement is that they be uniform throughout the nation. How did you think the Founders planned to fund the federal government?
Levy taxes on income and imports.
More idiocy. The Union forces were fired on and federal property attacked and seized. Obama may have surrendered when attacked but fortunately one of the greatest men ever to breathe sat in the White House and protected the Union. Even Jefferson or Buchanan would have done the same.
Slavers had been conspiring to try secession for almost a decade prior to Sumpter and they finally had their excuse when Lincoln was elected. They did not even wait till he was in office before putting their Treasonous schemes into effect. Schemes which destroyed their economic systen and plunged the South into a century of economic decline. Idiots through and through.
That is terrific unfortunately Wisconsin’s Supreme Court or any other state court has no authority to rule any federal law unconsitutional.
Wow, you are so wrong about Lincoln and slavery. Lincoln was almost a fanatic against the spread of slavery. If you don’t know this, then you really have not much knowledge about the Civil War.
By the same token, Jefferson Davis was a fanatic about trying to spread slavery to new territories, mainly Cuba and possibly Mexico, if possible.
Talk about slavery was rhetoric. Lincoln was a moderate, not an abolitionist. He was a source of consternation to the Radical Republicans who had not mustered much strength since their inception in 1854. The RRs gained political strength as Abe’s support wained during the War. By the end of the war and Sheridan’s rampant atrocities, Radical Republianism had risen to a popular view in the Reconstruction era where they sought revenge upon the South.
Calling me names is in violation of the rules on this forum. If you cannot refrain from such immature behavior I will report it to the moderator. There is no reason for such personal attacks, and you only sabbatoge your arguments.

A tariff is a tax on imports.
Except during this period
Please re-read my original post.
Lincoln was basically a fanatic against the spread of slavery.
He refused to compromise with Jefferson Davis on the issue, and rejected the Crittenden Compromise.
Would suggest you do further study on the issue.
You are correct about the tariffs always being applied to imports. Taxing exported cotton was to colonize Southern aggriculture and its cotton product for Northern textile mills. Abolitionists had very little political power comparatively. By taxing exports, the North had artificially lower prices on cotton by eliminating European markets. These interests actually had a vested interest in the status quo of the slave production of cotton. They were interested in cheap cotton, and cheap cotton was produced by cheap labor.
I never said that the Union put down the insurrection because of slavery. Nor did I call you names so don’t lie about that.
War came because large elements of the Slaver ruling class wanted it because they feared staying in a Union which would become more and more dominated by the anti-slavery forces. Now it is likely that they threw the election to Lincoln in order to justify their insurrection but the long term trend was not in the South’s favor. The moral stigma of slavery was too strong for a modern nation to tolerate.
Lincoln was not a radical abolitionist but that is splitting hairs since he did not disagree with their goal merely the means of achieving it. Since there was only Pro-slavery, indifference or anti-slavery positions Lincoln definitely fell into the last.
A tariff does not change it is ALWAYS a tax on imports. It has a couple of varieties but ALL are taxes on imports. One of the reasons NY was reluctant to ratify the constitution was that the tariff it had would no longer be allowed and would go to the federal government rather than the state.
Tariffs did not negatively affect just the Slaver class but ALL non-industrial classes including the Northern farmers who supported the Republicans.
Income taxes would have affected the slavers probably more and WERE unconstitutional to boot.
