Congratulations! I know three alcoholics. One died from it; the other is taking a drug that will make him sick if he drinks; and the third seems to be desperately trying to drink himself to death. That’s my experience with addiction.
From my lips, to your ears.
You get your brains back, after 5 years.
Enjoy.
Freedom from waking up sick, from wondering if it is OK to drive, from all the ills which often accompany using alcohol to excess.
Life is never perfect, but you are better equipped to handle it without that self-imposed burden.
Congratulations! I admire your internal fortitude.
Congratulations! I admire your internal fortitude.
You are not alone, my ex did the same for me.
Be very proud.
God Bless You!
Thanks for all the congrats. Can’t you people read :-)
I never mention politics in the company of fellow 12-steppers, and wish nobody would.
These days it's a real danger to a fellowship.
THE SIXH YEAR IS A REAL BITCH!!!
“Lastly, I am NOT posting this to ask for congrats or anything,”
Congratulations anyway. My wife has been sober for 30 years. It’s not just about not drinking, it’s about living.
I am addicted to political news.
I say that in all seriousness.
I was twenty-five years old, stationed in Las Vegas, and was a hard partying, hard charging jet engine mechanic. I’d been there for four years, and drank my a$$ off. Until one morning, I woke up in my apartment, sick as a dog, and realized I was quickly approaching the point where I was going to have a problem.
I quit then. Didn’t go to AA, didn’t do groups or anything like that. Still went out, but I drank Coca-cola or orange juice, always made sure the waitress knew I was the driver, etc, etc. I can’t touch the stuff. My new wife (got remarried after being single for 7 years) asked why I had old Budweiser in the fridge. Had to explain that it wasn’t for me - it was slug bait.
I wasn’t a full blown alcoholic, but I was well on my way. I can’t touch the stuff now. Wouldn’t want to.
I'm in the habit of drinking over a gallon of Diet Coke a day from a fountain.
I worry about what this will do to my system over time.
I've been able to give it up for years at a time in the past, just not right now.
Way to go on five years. If you attend any of those secret society things, or anonymous organizations, you are now eligible for the secret handshake and a decoder ring. Let’s see about one more day.
I am trudging the road to happy destiny myself, since 9/4/1975.
Been dry since 1984 and don’t regret it.
Hey, congrats. Keep trudging the happy road to destiny. Believe it or not it keeps gettin’ better.
