1) My former sponsor is a great, talented guy who is on fire to help others, but he gratuitously made a Bush-is-stupid-joke to me a year ago, and ever since I thought a person could probably do better for a sponsor.
2) In my meetings people almost always are savy enough not to bring politics into the meetings, but in the parking lot and at our weekday coffee sessions at McDonalds in Winnetka the libs are always putting their ignorance on display. I stopped going to these real BS sessions till the election is over. Getting riled up is not good for my sobriety.
I’m lucky because my sponsor is a good conservative. But, I find myself avoiding extensive conversations with a lot of the people in the meeting because I don’t want to get steamed up. My sponsor has helped me to see the wisdom of keeping my mouth shut about politics and other people’s misguided opinions. There is a large contingent of neck-down city workers at my meeting so I just think to myself that we’re all here for sobriety first and then call it a day. I can FReep when I get home.
