Bruckner was underrated. Agreed. I enjoy his symphonies. I remember having his 1st ("das kecke Beserl") on LPs. If I recall correctly, the first movement was so long, it actually spanned two sides!
My music history professor told us that yes, Bruckner's symphonies were long, but that was to enable them to accomodate his lovely, drawn-out melodies.

Mp3 doesnt do it justice I don't claim to know that much about MP3s or other formats, but I did run into this website awhile back that uses MP3 and FLAC formats for the Brandenburg Concertos. There's a huge diffence in sound and, of course, file size. (You'll have to scroll down.)

Bruckner certainly was underrated. His is not the most accessible or easiest music, but it sure rewards the effort required to listen carefully.
I've always thought of Bruckner as sort of a thinking man's Philip Glass.

I think you have it right FRiend.
Bruckner bridged the gap between Brahms “old world pastorals” and a more dynamic sound that incorporated brass
