Even w/ Favre’s 12 million dollar contract - the Pack is still 20 million below the cap.
Ted Thompson has told Favre that he is welcome to come back but for him to understand that the scenery has changed since late March.
2 weeks after Favre retired he called GB and told Thompson that he wanted to come back - 2 days later he changed his mind again and decided to stay retired.
That is exactly when the PACK decided they were going in a different direction. Favre could not and did not commit 100% to playing football.
What should Packer management have done? Wait until he is ready to commit? Heck no - they have a season to get ready for.
They were more than willing to let FAVRE decide - and he did decide he would remain retired. 3 months later was too late for him to change his mind.
I admire everything he did and would like nothing more than for him to lead the PACK this year, but he made his bed.
*DISCLOSURE* I am a Wisconsin transplant in Minnesota and I am a Packer shareholder.
Even if the Packers had made that decision to go another direction it would have been more helpful to them (and Favre) if he had let them know he wanted to play this season much earlier.
He did. Then he changed his mind. Again.
Four years of this. Enough already.
This is somewhat interesting
