The Apollo moon program was cancelled. That was the end of my space career. I am not impressed.

I will give you this, you certainly can blow smoke, but you picked the wrong leg from which to blow it.

The problems you listed are indeed correct. The drilling companies have destroyed old rigs and equipment. Most existing rigs are contracted out. But I disagree with your attitude. These are problems that can be addressed. We need to start now. We have the man power and the know how to build everything you correctly stated is in short supply. All we need is the will to make it happen.

We don't quit in the fourth quarter. We rally.

>The RATS have been planning this for about 30 years. Thats where all their energy has been. We’re screwed. And the brain dead Americans haven’t caught on yet.<

Do you remember when the Republicans had full controll of the White House and both Houses of Congress?

Did we do anything to open ANWR to drilling for oil?

Did we do anything to get nuclear power plants in operation?

Did we do a single thing to correct the screw ups the Democrats did while they had control?

Blaming this fuel shortage on the Democrats is as ridiculous as blaming the next election on UFOs. I realize that you hate the idea of looking in the mirror and admiting guilt to yourself but is it too difficult to get your head out of your rear end and seeing the facts for what they are? The Republican Party shares full blame for everything that is going wrong in our society.

When you vote for McCain, remember that you are voting for a RINO, NOT A CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN. So everything that he does will be with the full acceptance and approval of the Democrats. So, in four years the situation will be worse than it is now. That is what you are guarenteeing by voting for this RINO. Don’t be upset when your children wake up and get pissed at you for sending us down the wrong trail.

You had the chance to send Hunter to the White House and you failed. Why, was he too conservative. A lot of you are going to be suffering hard times during the next couple of years. Remember whose fault it is.

yes...oil fired water heater - but the furnace also supplies heated water to run through the baseboards.

When we discussed -at the time - the water heat, we went with oil (the year was 2000) because our family was growing.
Since then we have added 3 more children to the 4 we already had at the time (oldest is going away to college in Aug.) but we also added a mother-in-law addition (complete with mother-in-law - yes I love her and we get along)

Contractor told us an electic water heater probably wouldn’t keep up with all of our baths/showers/laundry/and dishwashing.

Of course - it won’t if we can’t afford to put oil in the tank either.

so...we cannot afford the new budget estimate ($585/month) and we cannot afford (this very moment) a whole new system either.

What I mean - is that, had we foreseen this better - we could have saved for 1 or 2 years and invested in something else.

This is sudden - how do you come up with cash like that on the spot when the banks aren’t exactly in the mood to lend?
And we’re not exactly in the mood to go more in debt?

This is crazy. My head hurts.
I’m going for more coffee.

Here again, you are trying to tell me all about the business I have been deeply involved in for the last 35 years.

What do you suggest we do?

You’re right of course. Nobody has gotten anything done in 30 years. The problem should have been dealt with by now. But, one has to start from where they are. The problem is nobody with the power to do is starting.

We always have this same conversation, so lets try something different.

ANWR is an on-shore, well-known and not very difficult-to-drill location. So why wouldn’t opening ANWR make it easier to get oil then having to play with leases in mile-deep water?

Electric company has added a fuel surcharge that nearly doubles the electric bill over a year ago.

We could always launch a preemptive nuclear attack on China. They’d respond, but whatever happened, we’d need a lot less oil afterwards, and there would be plenty of supply chasing a rather smaller economy.

“It’s unfortunate you heat with oil, propane or electric would probably be better.”

yes it’s unfortunate now.
At the time (2000) this was suggested because we have a large family.
I’ve read propane isn’t as efficient, but I’m not sure what that means. I’ve noticed some of my friends who built homes in the past few years went with propane.

We were told - at the time - electric was too expensive (joke’s on us now!) and that an electric fired water heater wouldn’t keep up with our needs.

My Attitude?

I have 2 rigs drilling right now, contracted for the next 5 years, and 20 leases that need to be opened (drilled) in the next 2 years, or they go back into renegotiation.
We will be lucky to drill 6 of them using the latest technology.

As far as having the man power, here again, you don’t understand this industry. You just don’t get the necessary trained experience off the street or over the course of a few weeks or months. All the desire in the Universe won’t make that happen. The Oil Field has always been this way.

Blaming this fuel shortage on the Democrats is as ridiculous as blaming the next election on UFOs.

Determining who is to blame will not lower the price of gas one cent. It doesn't matter whose fault it is. We need to be assigning duties, not blame. No more finger pointing and name calling; lets start drilling.

I bet we could take out their ICBMs right away and their Nuke subs would not last past their first counter launch. We would have to worry about their friends of course, if they had any friends.

I live in NY where NYSEG has made electicity much more expensive than it is in the rest of the country.
I hate NYSEG.
A spanish company is currently trying to buy them out - but I don’t know if that will make a difference or not.

The regulations in NY are undecipherable - and intentionally so, becuase NY is a cesspool of corruption.

We live on property that is ideal for wind, but regulations make it impossible to implement that type of a thing.

A person in NY wouldn’t actually need running water or electricity. My grandparents didn’t have those things and they had a fair size family. We’re all going to be reevaluating our needs and requirements if this oil thing goes on much longer.

As far as having the man power, here again, you don’t understand this industry.

My husband's company has been hiring returning military guys like crazy and they are very easy to train. It takes about 5 years before these guys are fully competent but they are smart guys who are eager to learn. And they hit the ground running because they have common sense and do what they are told to do.

My husband has been hanging around, listening to our written exchange and he does not have a different understanding; only a different attitude.

Our ruling elite are envious of the Mexican oligarchy and with to impose the same here. Devaluing our dollar is just another way of stealing middle class wealth.

It really is an Oligarchy, proven by McCain-Feingold, Illegal Immigration, Clinton's absolution, McCain/Obama (both Senators) manipulated as the candidates, dissolution of the Republican Party, control of energy, etc.

And there are people all over Free Republic, to say nothing of the citizenry at large, who cannot connect the dots.

It’s way to late to start talking about doing anything in rapid fashion. We are already doing all that we can do with what we have.

This industry simply does not work that way. The time to start was ten years ago.

There is no simple solution for the mess that many of us in this industry tried to warn the public about several years ago.

This takes advance planning and steady progress to make happen. The strength of this industry builds slowly and needs to be maintained at a certain level from there on. In this day of instant gratification, it is nearly impossible to explain it to most folks. They just do not understand.
