Ever since the Kennedy announcement, and the fawning of the media, I've been thinking of this article that I remember from 12 years ago! I remember reading this and discussing it with my Dad, In fact, I think my Dad showed it to me. That a sign of a great article, huh? Remember it 12 years later.

It's so spot on.

I for one will remember Packard and forget the name Muskie again as soon as I can (”Yeah, I’ve heard the name, who was he again?”).

1968: The year Wal-Mart expanded outside of Arkansas, on its way to saving the American people more than they get in hand-outs from the government (over $250 billion overall yearly, hundreds of millions just from their cheap prescription drug program).

Wasn’t this a great article. The media lionizes the wrong people. And I, for one, am so freaking sick of it. Our disgusting celebrity culture. The average kid with no core values is just going to be screwed. Society used to provide a safety net with it’s rules and unwritten decorum..but that’s all gone.

Wasn’t this a great article.

Definitely, admiring people who actually matter and have significantly contributed to our society -- what a concept. Don't worry, we geeks will never forget David Packard.

David Packard is not responsible for the things his company did after he died. Thanks for ruining the spirit of this post.

Sure he is. He setup an amoral money making machine and it is destroying the American culture.

Mr. Packard died in 1996. His daughters run his foundation.

Thanks for ruining the spirit of this post.

Bill and Dave ran a people oriented company which emphasized people development to their maximum potential.

Everyone had profit sharing twice a year. One year it was almost 12%.

You were a fool if you didn't participate in the stock purchase plan (50% match then) and that was the secret of it's stock going up in bad times.

After Bill and Dave retired, a Business Major nearly ran the company into the ground and I think it was Bill that had to come back in and cut out the unprofitable parts, bringing the company back to profitability.

I could be wrong, but wasn’t it Carly Fiorina (the same Carly running McCain’s campaign) that ran HP into the ground?
