"I'd take Huckabee over McCain any day."

Huckabee was so far up McCain's posterior in Little Rock today that, I swear, McCain looked like he couldn't wait to get away from him.

I'm no McCain fan. However, in all fairness, he's right on this one. The Katrina disaster was badly mismanaged at all levels of government. The biggest screwups were on the state and local level, yes, but you can't deny the fact that the Feds screwed up too.

Besides, if we are to win this election, McCain has to show he's different than Bush. You may not like this fact, but Bush is very unpopular right now; his approval rating is the lowest of any president since the polling organizations began collecting data. The surest way of losing the election is for McCain to run as another Bush.

Now you may argue that the public isn't being fair to President Bush, that he doesn't deserve such low approval ratings, that it's all the MSM's fault. I would, in fact, agree with you to an extent. That Bush's approval rating is lower than Carter's were strikes me as absurd. Nevertheless, it's a fact, and if we're going to win this election we have to deal with it.

Part of being a conservative is accepting reality for what it is, rather pretending it is what we'd like it to be.

Note: posted on 4/25/2008. Brian_Baldwin:
The statement “reconsidering why I considered even reconsidered considering voting for McCain” sort of doesn’t make any sense, but yet it does. Myself, as in millions of other Republicans, have a real dilemma in the behavior of John McCain. I wasn’t for him in the primaries, my candidate of choice lost. There has been a lot of talk about folks being “bitter”, as in the recent comments from that idiot Obama for example (oh, I’m sorry John, I guess I shouldn’t call Obama an “idiot”, should I? After all, you want to run a clean campaign, right?) . . . And perhaps I am being “bitter” in what I feel about the loss of my candidate in the Republican Primary contests, in part I blame the supporters of Huckabee and the outcomes of the Southern States in some cases for giving us a John McCain. But then again, folks should vote for whomever they feel is the best representative of the Republican Party, and I shouldn’t be bitter. Though even today, when I see Huckabee, the feeling I had then and now is, I was looking at a Park Ranger and not a Presidential candidate. He looked like a Park Ranger. He talked like a Park Ranger. He should be a Park Ranger.
