Every Bailey I’ve known has been female.

IMO, all of this is because people are humanizing animals. Substituting dogs and cats for kids.

Let a dog have a dignity of being a dog. Out of the stroller and onto chewing poo, like a dog should.

That being said, we have Minnie the Maniac. The name fits her.
Here she is getting ready to type her blog...

I’m guilty of using human names too. My two cats are Abby and Annabelle and the dog I grew up with was Heidi. For some reason I never thought to use anything but “people” names.

Over the almost 40 years Mr. Mercat and I have owned various cats, we had the tradition of naming them after food. Except now our cat is Bob. hmmm.

I was going to joke that I don't have dogs, I have clean carpet - but as usual, your comment was so rude I won't even joke on here.

Why do you feel it necessary to say things like that?

My two dogs (alas, both died last year) were named Ernie and Nick. Two great dogs.

You are correct!
I don’t have kids, so we baby our golden retriever.
Hubby says we have become those folks he used to make fun of.

My "baby" is almost 13. His name is Ed. He is a chocolate lab, golden retriever mix. My son named him in honor of one of the hyenas in Lion King, and it is a name that fits him to a tee.

We found out, in the past few weeks, that he is suffering from a progressive degenerative nerve disorder that will leave him paralyzed in a short time. This can happen anywhere from 3 months to 3 years, but we are already seeing a progression.

My "baby" Ed will not be with me forever, but for his short time left he will be spoiled beyond belief!

My only "real" child will be leaving for college this fall, so I will really have the empty nest syndrome. Oh well, at least I really, really like my husband, and I am looking forward to spending the time with him!!

your comment was so rude

How so?

It's an extremely common phenomenon.

Here in Manhattan you will see plenty of unmarried or divorced 30-something career women who refer to their lapdogs as "my little baby", who carry them around in their arms as much or more than they walk them, who buy or make little outfits for them, who enroll them in classes, take them regularly to specialty salons, throw birthday parties for them, etc.

There is a parallel in the suburbs for 40 something men, typically divorced and living alone, who have multiple big dogs and take them everywhere, plan vacations around activities for their dogs, etc.

are now pushing them down the street in strollers.

I have to admit, I put my Bichon in a stroller for a walk around the lake, but only because she was so old she had a hard time walking.

When my wife was planning a birthday party for my youngest, one of her friends came to visit, and observed my wife efficiently putting together all the party plans.

She remarked: "I really need to have a kid. Last month, I did all the stuff you're doing right now for Reggie [her Yorkshire terrier]."

Her husband gave a pained look.

I am so guilty. Golden Retriever named Beau, Chocolate Lab named Molly and 4 Miniature Dachshunds named Jake, Oliver, Lily and Gracie. Our kids are grown and on their own, so these “kids” are our second family.

I put my Bichon in a stroller for a walk around the lake, but only because she was so old she had a hard time walking.

A neighbor has a dog who she would walk with every day. When the dog began having severe hip issues she built a set of wheels she could strap to the dog's back and they continued their walks again. It may look a little odd to many of us, but I totally get why you took your Bichon out in the stroller.
