Best music book by the best music critic.
I think about it frequently and smile when I recall him saying how Dvorák and Haydn were probably the "least neurotic" of all composers.
“A lot of concerts have rush seats for as little as 10 dollars.”
Will I would have to check into that, but I don’t think the Bass Performance Hall does that. The local symphony plays at a mega church and I believe the tickets are as low as $15. But Arlington Symphony just isn’t the Fort Worth Symphony. But it is something and I keep planning to go back to a concert of my HS orchestra, but always miss the dates.
I disagree about viewing a video or live feed of a concert online or on TV. I enjoy every time PBS broadcasts the NY Philharmonic or Andre Rieu(is playing here this month $15 parking fee and cheapest seat is $50 at Nokia theatre). No it isn’t the same as dressing up and going to the concert in a nice Hall, but I as a visual person enjoy the viewing the concerts compared to listening to them. Hopefully in a year when I am working one job I can go to more concerts.
I am even dabbling with the idea of ramping up practicing again and seeing if I can win a chair in the 2nd violin in my local symphony. I don’t think they pay anything, but it would be fun.
“They have been saying this for 50 years.”
I think this ebbs and flows. A lot is dependent on the quality and longevity of the local orchestra directors. I was bless to have the same two teachers from 5th-12th grade. Both were very good and well regarded in the state. This translated into large vibrate philharmonics and symphonies over the years from my former High School. Other schools had a revolving door with their orchestra directors and that can kill a lot of potential in future performers. Of course the funny thing was I chose orchestra so I could get out of the hated music class. Then it became a safety zone from the hideousness and misery that is public schooling.

Chopin Prelude No 4 via Five Easy Pieces
montanans are the exception! (grew up in Bozeman.) :;grin:: beautiful shot, by the way.
This guy tried to get everyone to listen to classical music. He got so strange that I forgot how good he really was.
