The Choc has a toy that the Black wants. They are hurling themselves around the room, body slamming each other (they are pretty evenly matched), caroming off the sofa and the armchairs, knocking the cushions off on the floor, snarling and growling and putting up all the hair on the backs of their necks.
We have a few dull moments, but not very often . . . .
Poor baby. What they have to go through to get ready to strut their stuff. I am glad the beagle won. She was beautiful.
I really did like both the poodles, though.
I agree. Aussies are really, really smart.
LOL
I love both breeds. There is always political stuff behind shows. Having never been to Westminster; I don’t know; but I do know there is in the smaller shows. One girl I know brings all her puppies when they are ready to show with their new co owners and wins all of the time. She isn’t even a member of this organization; but walks away with the prizes anyway. She has also used illegal clickers in the ring and all kinds of things; but since she brings a lot of dogs; they let a lot of things slide. And that’s not even a tenth of what she does. She lets her son go to my dogs crates and tease and excite them before shows; that is; until we put a stop to it. It’s nice when you bring home the blue; but it’s not everything. Working on their championships are the most important and playing fair.
I have only questioned one time. That was when a judge stopped the show to show my handler how to show one of my dogs. LOL He may have been showing him like you would a pointer or bloodhound which is entirely different than they were doing last night. I just casually mentioned my handler had bred, raised, trained and showed a world cup champion dog which there only a few like single digits. To date; I haven’t heard a word. A world cup championship is as high as you can go in the dog world, btw.
I would think Westminster would be fair; since there is so much money riding and there is usually no money in the smaller shows. The thing you have to worry about is keeping your dog safe in the big shows. If you are winning too much; someone may try to make your dog sick. My groomer was showing a cumberland spaniel and this dog was winning everything. A really beautiful dog. Collasped right in the middle of the show ring. Someone had tried to make him sick. Took him to a human hospital. He is alright. Too bad the people didn’t realize this cumberland spaniel was owned by two sisters from Columbia. I wonder what happened to the people that tried to make him sick. LOL
Anyway, winning the blue is fun; but having a good time is the best. I love to see my guys running around the ring.
LOL Are you sure my dogs haven’t moved in with you? The big girls decided to take a slat off the fence the other day and visit the neighbors. Thundy couldn’t get his big fat fanny through the slat. LOL I put a stop to that fast.
Then one of my girls at the show a couple of weeks ago decided she was going to open the door to the hotel room. I have to double lock her crate; so she won’t escape. Obviously her father has more trust in her. She calmly walked over to the door in front of him and hit the handle with her paw a couple of times and the door popped open. My other big girl can get gates with smooth round knobs open. Jeez, we have double locks for everything.
I remember my Ace, who looked like a minature GSD. Finally, when he was 16; he started slowing down. He loved to dig and escape. I used to put a big lead on him in the backyard; so if he got loose; he would wrap himself around a tree which he did everytime and my sweet neighbot would call. I changed that darned dog through 3 states. I also loved him very much. He was great with everyone including kids.
I meant to say I chased him through 3 states. LOL
I liked the mastiff that was out there. I am sorry Angus didn’t come up; but this is his first time and he did great just getting there. That English mastiff out there was a big one; wasn’t he?
I know your daughter is proud. I think that is wonderful I wish more kids would get involved. It’s really a neat thing.
Talking about escape artists . . . my dogs were just out in the yard, ran up onto the deck, opened the deck door and waltzed in (they didn't shut the door behind them).
The older one has learned to turn the lever handle on the deck door. These handicap-accessible doors are also dog-accessible!
I used to have a Siamese who could not only open ordinary doorknobs, but UNLOCK them as well (the kind with the round hole in the middle - he'd just stick in a claw and pop the lock.)
Our hunting retriever club has a "Junior Handler" event, it's the cutest thing you ever saw, the little itty-bitties, some 3 or 4 years old, out there handling a big high-powered Lab or Chessie (of course the Lab has an eye on the owner/handler, who stands right behind, but a Lab will work for anybody. All I have to do with my older dog is point and say, "Go with [fill in name here]" and she will work her heart out for them.)
One of our junior members (isn't she adorable?)
I know; but he is only 3 years old and has some more chances and he did get to go. I am waiting to hear where he placed in the group show.
It’s almost scary when you have ones that figure these things out. That cat is unbelievable. What a smart baby. I have seen them pull the door open; but never unlock it. LOL
What a precious young lady. Is that your baby with her?
My handler/trainer has a 4-H he does for junior handlers. They are so cute and really very serious. Some even bring tables to groom them and put them through paces. Very professional.
No, that’s not my girl — although she looks just like her in the face! She’s a young pup that belongs to some friends — this was her First Duck Hunt!
I don't think I DARE encourage the dogs to shred a shirt . . . they might start in on everybody's wardrobe! Right now, they confine their activities to dog toys and Nylabones, with an occasional foray into yoghurt cups and steak bones . . . . thanks to my oldest dog, who has learned how to open the step-on garbage can.
Well, they are dolls.
