Morris Chapel near Savannah 3.5” hail and hook echos.
Apparently pretty bad damage at Union University in Jackson TN - people trapped.
well things are clearing up my area. MO/IL state line in SW IL.
Everything is just about 20 miles south of me and it will continue coming through just south of me.
The second (weaker) front will cross the Miss. River around 10 pm tonight and pass through Memphis, per WMC TV.
This sounds like it’s going to be a very bad night...for possibly a great many, in a great many places.
Amen on the Prayers,,,
The tail of the front reaches all the way to south Texas...
Gunna be a long nite for the folks east and north of me...
WMC: Person from Jackson, TN says cars tossed, Union University dorm damage, nursing home major damage.
Something I read earlier, which if that part holds true and continues...if it remains a “fast” storm...it should cause less damage and injuries....otoh, someone else said warmer weather up ahead will create instability...
IMHO : The fast movers tend to be thinner,,,gone quickly...
around here anyway...
Power out in Southaven and DeSoto County.
Thankfully, my aunt is ok. Their area just had some trees down.
With some exceptions (The Oklahoma City F5, the Jarrell F5) most really destructive tornadoes are moving quite fast. They end up covering more area with a longer track.
The deadliest Tornado in history, the Tri-State Tornado, was one of the fastest moving tornadoes ever recorded - 70 mph+
This is a wide spread storm and is serious.
Maybe along the coastal areas, quicker storms mean less destruction....and the more inland, the greater destruction.
But I was thinking that a slower storm also allows a tornado to build to a large funnel and, therefore, create greater damage.
(But seeing as how I have never once lived in an area where there are frequent tornadoes (much less seen one), I profess my utter ignorance as to anything about them, except for what I read about them from experts or anecdotal commentary from others.)
Flying washing machines....that could do lots of damage. Hope nobody hurt. The Med won’t give any info yet on possible patients coming in.
Guess once they know more they will.
I know your friend is grateful tonight!
My brother in law was in Memphis. Rental car heavily damaged, hotel heavily damaged. He was not at the hotel at the time.
Not sure what part of Memphis he was in.
Watched TWC at 8. The Sears store is devastated. All the cars in the lot outside were heavily damaged. Miraculously, though...no serious injuries.
Could have been anywhere. Heavy damage all over.
Glad that your BIL is O.K.
Forrest City, AR -— strong storm headed your way. Weatherman said rotation showing on radar. Suggests to take cover.
