The military really dropped the ball on this girl. They left her out to dry and protected their own. Apparently she had issues ... but had they protected her ... not just putting her in an apartment OFF BASE to be “safe” she might still be alive. We might know if this married marine who supposedly raped her was also the father of her baby.

“Probably, and she buried herself in a shallow grave..............”

and tried to clean up the bloody evidence all over the ceilings and walls, then even though dead, threw herself in a pit, lit it and covered herself up so it could really look like a suicide.

The wife was probably cleaning up hubby’s blood y mess and giving him a chance to get away. I doubt that the wife was thrilled with the sexual assault charges and probably didn’t like this girl. Probably loves her husband more than hated him.

JACKSONVILLE — Authorities detailed gruesome evidence of a pregnant Marine’s death Saturday as they excavated a fire pit where they believe a comrade she accused of rape burned and buried her body after a horrific attack.

Investigators have found blood spatters on the ceiling and a massive amount of blood on the wall of the home of Marine Cpl. Cesar Armando Laurean, Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown said. It appeared that someone had tried to wash and paint over the blood, he said.

“I believe this is going to be a bizarre discovery today,” Brown said. “The blood splatters indicate a violent, violent attack.”

In the backyard of Laurean’s home, authorities found what “appeared to be burnt human remains” in the fire pit, District Attorney Dewey Hudson said. State investigators planned to use garden tools to slowly scrape dirt from the site, protected overnight by a tarp and two white tents.

“We think we have found what will (contain) the skeletal remains of Maria Lauterbach,” Hudson said.

Charles Garrett, the Onslow County medical examiner and a state pathologist for the region, said this morning that investigators had found charred human bones buried six inches to a foot in the fire pit.

“We’re in the process of recovering definite human remains,” Garrett said, adding that it may be Monday before they can be identified.

So where would this guy be going? I’m sure the authorities are staking out his hometown in Vegas. And what was in El Paso where Maria supposedly was attempting to go? I wonder if Cesar was the male who emptied Maria’s bank accounts knowing this would likely be the end result?

The most telling evidence will be the discovery of the baby’s remains - OR - absence.

Still wonder if the Laureans were attempting to coerce Lauterbach into giving the child to them and things turned ugly.

As a single mother her military career was probably in jeopardy. She may have felt compelled to threaten a charge of rape in lieu of paternity admission & child support. It’s possible the adultery/fraternization could have ruined two careers - rape, just the one.

Stranger things have happened.

How can “massive” amounts of blood on walls, fresh paint, and burning human flesh go undetected by his wife? Didn’t the neighbors notice the smells coming from the fires?

Brown said blood spatters were found several areas inside Laurean’s home, including the garage. Someone had tried to clean up the scene and even painted over some of the blood, he said.

Agree - there are too many unanswered questions. I understood that military personnel are *close*. Funny how there are no neighbors or colleagues making public statements - must be a military information *blackout*.

If the MySpace entry is Mrs. Laureans, I want to know if she is or ever was pregnant. Still believe there was some sort of *custody* agreement being discussed and somebody or everybody snapped.

I read somewhere on the net that the couple have a daughter who is a toddler. I think I read her name is Abrianna or something like that.

Strange that Christina’s name differs - no reference to Shifflet - see your post #212 (He is also survived by a son, Bruce (Debbie) Shifflet, Prospect; grandchildren Christina ( Cesar ) Laurean)

Wonder if there is a reason for it.

You were actually quite nice on me. No apology necessary.

But I guess from my perspective it makes no sense that women should be risking their lives for the country instead of men. Women should also not be pretending to bemen in the macho role of defending the country.

There is obviously a role for women in service to their country. But integrated units (male-females) has meant degraded training and degraded readiness. Less so for the USMC, but many Army units, with 20% girls in uniform, couldn’t best weak reserve units from the 1950s. The only thing that makes them combat worthy is their technology.

Also, not surprisingly, Army and Navy units (presumably not Marines) with high percentages of women tend to end up with a lot of pregnancies when war approaches. This seriously affects readiness when 1/3 of women are allowed to leave the war zone because, in their hearts, they didn’t want to fight so got pregnant instead. Not only do the statistics reveal this, but a friend of mine was CO of a squadron in Rota, Spain, in 1990 when the first Gulf War was imminent. He lost literally all his women squids to pregnancy. Yes, on the surface all looked hunky-dory but everyone — the men, officers, and women — all knew the truth. A cynical military that can’t speak the truth about readiness is one less equipped to fight.

What breaks my heart, though, are the tear-jerking stories of mothers and children being separated in time of war, sometimes while Dad stays home. Yes it makes for a lump in the throat but honestly, what kind of nation have we become when the men stay home and the women fight?

Some very well researched critiques have been done by Elaine Donnelley and Stephanie Gutmann that document such data. It doesn’t get very far, of course, because of political correctness in the military.

None of this is to detract from you daughter’s desires or accomplishments, or those of other women in the service. And, American girls deserve the opportunity that a military career and national service provide, and the pride they deserve for having served their country.

But the statistics show that things will never be equal. And no amount of liberal writing can prove that a woman in a foxhole, with a dozen men, does not change the entire dynamic of war. Or that a woman’s body can handle the stress of air combat in a high-performance aircraft.

Maybe fellows like me would be satisfied by womens’ corps again. I don’t know.

If I made you more angry, forgive me!

Is it any wonder why males are ridiculed and laughed at at strong authority figures?

Name a sitcom that doesn’t malign men?

Also, when women prisoners are taken by the enemy, their plight becomes a psychological tool to be used against us.

Recall the recent episode where the British sailors were taken captive by the Iranians. The lone female sailor among the hostages was highlighted over and over, more than the men combined. The Iranians shrewdly placed her front and center in all the videos and interviews done with the hostages. They correctly surmised that the sight of a female in peril would break the spirit of the British and make them more willing to capitulate.
