I love to cook - I have been cooking for my family for 25 years and I put a lot of effort into it. I have taken professional lessons, practiced, and watched numerous shows.

Not to brag - but I am said to be a darned good cook by all my friends, family, and neighbors.

Rachel Ray annoys me with her simplistic "recipes", her grating voice, and her crass behavior.

Moreover, she is an Oprah-made product - like Dr. Phil.

Chef's like Giada De Laurentiis went to cooking school at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. Emeril Lagasse worked his way through the Johnson and Wales University culinary program to earn a doctorate.

I respect them. I don't respect some blaring voiced shrew like Ray who instructs me in intimate detail how to microwave vegetables.

Some have criticized Ray's "perky" demeanor as well as her lack of a formal chef's education and perceived lack of seriousness about cooking. Celebrity chef and Travel Channel personality Anthony Bourdain, who graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, has referred to her as a "bobblehead".[21]

In a Slate article defending Ray, Jill Hunter Pellettieri summarized some of these criticisms by writing:

“ Ray's ditzy demeanor also makes her easy to dismiss. She giggles off-cue and constantly praises her own cooking. "Smells awesome already!" she says, making her Snapper in a Snap. "I am so psyched about that." She employs cute abbreviations—EVOO means "extra virgin olive oil", and gives her dishes nicknames, such as "You-Won't-Be-Single-for-Long Vodka Cream Pasta". The acknowledgments in her $40 a Day cookbook read like a high-school yearbook: "Don …You are the tallest man we've ever had on crew, and yet you pack the smallest bag—ever! Cool." And, it didn't boost her credibility when she posed for pinup shots in FHM. (One featured Ray licking chocolate off a spoon.) When the magazine hit newsstands, she said, "I think it is kinda cool for someone who is goofy, and a cook, just a normal person to be thought of in that way.[13] ”

The 30 Minute Meals concept has also been criticized because Ray doesn't account for certain preparation times in the signature half-hour cooking time. Many of these preparations, such as pre-washing herbs and vegetables, are not meal-specific, and Ray counsels they should be done ahead of time. In the Slate article that otherwise mostly complimented her, author Pellettieri went through several of Ray's "30 Minute Meals" recipes and was unable to complete any meal in under half an hour.[13]

Ray has indicated on her cooking show that it may take others over 30 minutes but the point being that it's still fast and simple. The New York Times Magazine has noted that one of the prices of her popularity has been an "anti-fan site," a LiveJournal community titled "Rachael Ray Sucks." The community's founder acknowledges that it was created partially in jest. Posters in the community regularly discuss annoyance and disgust at topics such as Ray's constant spasmodic hand motions, her fixated smile, her overused catch phrases and the perceived inedibility and poor aesthetics of many of her recipes. The community has over 1,800 members.[22]

Did John Mahoney ever fully "come out." I know he did a lot of talk about why he never married (parents' miserable marriage), which looked suspicious after David Hyde-Pierce put too much emphasis on "my girlfriend" in talk show interviews.

Mahoney was in the film Broken Hearts Club about a gay softball team for which he was the mentor. World Entertainment News Network published this at the time:

The information I had heard was that Mahoney did come out, and that idea in my mind was only confirmed by his taking a role on the season premiere of ER as a drag queen.

OTOH, I have found nothing through a web search indicating that Mahoney has issued a statement a la Neil Patrick Harris, and there were a few results indicating out gays are annoyed by his refusal to state his status for the record.

We have two lesbians down the street, who had a little boy and a little girl with two of their male friends. They each gave birth, and the men are fairly involved in their lives as well. The boy is 14 and the girl is probably 11 or 12. The boy is a nice kid, and mows almost everyone in the neighborhoods lawn during the summer. The little girl is a great soccer player. They seem very happy and well adjusted.

Your suggested controls over AI and adoption doesn’t approach this issue at all, and it would seem fairly easy for all gay couples to go this route. I just don’t think it is possible to prevent gays or lesbians that want to be parents, from having children.
