I know, LOL. I thought the same thing.

Maybe because they don’t know THE EXACT DAY in 1983 it was taken.

Like that’s so imperative or something.

"Pop, don't be depressed. Mr. Whipple died, not Mr. Ripple."

Off topic, but my buddy the plumber calls Charmin “The Plumber’s Friend”....it’s absorbent and swells in the water; he gets a lot of unclogging calls.

Now there’s a plumber’s crack we can all appreciate - and not off topic at all, IMO.

“RIP Mr. Wilson. Another icon from my childhood gone.”

Ditto, RIP. My childhood flashed before my eyes in 1998 when Roy Rodgers, Shari Lewis and Buffalo Bob Smith died.

The one that got to me was Captain Kangaroo aka Bob Keeshan.

He passed away in 2004. It made me feel really old. :(

What the heck is the “Bob Newport Show”?

A sitcom about a psychiatrist who smoked menthol cigarettes. The Bob Newhart Show was much more successful.

My dad told me (back then, when I was junior-high-school age) his theory that Mr. Whipple and Aunt Bluebell were meant to be annoying; that that was how they created an impression that lingered until you got into the grocery store (no Cosco, BJ’s, or Sam’s Club back then, if you wanted TP you got it at the grocery store).

When I first heard his theory, I thought it interesting but too strange to be true. Over the years, though, I’ve decided that he was exactly right.

Aunt Bluebell, btw, was Mae Questel, the voice of Betty Boop.
