They have wooden rifles, handguns, cars, tanks, etc. We got my son the Tommy Gun last year.
The people are really nice, and the toys are sturdy and beautiful.

JARTS! I got spanked because of these things once as a kid. Dad wanted to know how a couple of them got on the roof. My answer was less than convincing, I suppose.
Putting your eye out with these things was really the least of anyone’s worries.
They also made cool sparks when you hurled them down a concrete street at night.

Same here. Ditto on the exaggerations. Still, it should be investigated. People would be amazed at all the toxins they ingest without eating toys made in China.
Real LEGOs are not manufactured in China.
I have a love hate relationship with DVDs with my daugther. They can be handy when you need 30 minutes to get dinner cooked. But there’s always that fine line of watching too many. I love Peter Pan, but not enough to watch even a few minutes of it as often as she would like.
But, by far the best DVDs out there are Baby Signing Times. Signing with little ones helps so much with communication and the benefits carry on well into school. We started signining when our daugther was 8 months old. It was great that she would sign “milk” when she was hungry instead of screaming down the house.
Now at 18 months she absolutely loves the DVDs and CDs we have (volumes 1-6) and knows 50+ signs. I even find the songs in the catchy.
Definitely worth the investment.

For me, it’s not just about the toxins, I REALLY am sick of purchasing things made in china (the Most Favored Nation). Now I realize that it is a HUGE task to purchase things that aren’t, but when I can, I will. Sometimes my budget just won’t allow me to. I’ve been frustrated with chinagate for a long time, as well as purchasing fresh fruits/vegies that are not grown in America. It is really irritating. I want to support LOCAL.

Agree on purchasing from China. I like to avoid it and am somewhat giddy that China is having problems to the extent that it doesn’t do to much damage to our own economy.
I still have to be intellectually honest and admit that a lot of this stuff is overblown. Alarmism keeps scientists, lawyers, government workers and media types in business. Think Asbestos.

I was talking with my Mom and a bunch of other people the other day. Someone said something about lead paint. I replied—we all grew up with lead based paint on our cribs and it didn’t hurt any of us. My Mom said, How do you know?
Shakes head. I replied, Mom—there wasn’t any other kind of paint. lololo
I have to admit that alarmists do keep those careers in business. No doubt about it.
