Grammatica is good to keep as back up, he was finished in the NFL last season until that bonehead we did have couldn’t get between the up rights to save his life.
Without Bill Belichick, Bill Parcells would never have even smelled a Super Bowl - unless he bought a ticket to sit in the stands. But Belichick has been there three more times on his own - and won each time.
Parcells is a fraud who rode the coattails of others and took all the credit (while always finding others to blame for when things go bad). He's a loudmouth buffoon with no loyalty to his team whatsoever. Even when the New England Patriots were going to a Super Bowl back in 1997 (with Belichick running the defense, of course), Parcells was busy negotiating another job with the New York Jets (against NFL tampering rules). After the game, Parcells didn't even ride back with the team. He took a private plane directly to New York to finalize the deal.
Parcells was famous for saying at press conferences "You get the record you deserve." Post-Belichick, Parcells has the record he deserves - one of mediocrity. His only chance for future success is to find another up-and-comer to help coach his team and to take advantage of.
Your assessment is dead on. Parcells was no X & O guy. What made Belichick so damned good is his willingness to study film, identify where an offense is weak, learn what its tendencies are with respect to certain plays or situations and then work with his guys to take things away from them. In the 2002 Super Bowl they hit Marshall Faulk every time they could simply to disrupt the Rams’ offense because Faulk was the central point. They also hit the receivers any time they could. During practice they lined the scout team offense and defense offside just to try and prepare the Pats to deal with the Rams’ team speed. A truly amazing coaching job.
No way Parcells could do that.
MY EYES!! MY EYES!!!
No way both of these could happen.
I say Parcells will GM the Giants and Cowher will be the coach/GM of the Redskins.
A pair of old coveralls stuffed with straw could be the coach of the Giants and do a better job than that waste-of-oxygen Coughlin. He should be charged with grand theft for depositing his paychecks.
The redskins are probably going to be turned over the defensive coordinator.
Ironically he did a better job as the Cowboys de facto GM, loading the roster with talent, than he did as a coach.
Exactly the opposite of his previous reputation as a great coach but bad GM.
Let’s look at the facts. In 2002, Dallas was supposed to have been a wild card team, yet injuries to the offensive line(which wasn’t resolved until mid season) caused Dallas to go 5-11.
The following year, Dallas exceeds in the middle of the season (just like 2006) and falls off at the end. Then Dallas loses Quincy Carter to drugs and Bill starts his Bogus High school reunion at Dallas until mid 2006.
It was Sean Payton who brought Romo on, not Parcels.
Cowher revealed he has met privately with Dan Snyder, but did not say anything about the Redskins job. (Why else would he meet with Snyder?)
Would it be possible to follow the headline that was Steve Spurrier and Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs with Greg Williams? Not a big enough name for Snyder IMO.
D.C. is a high profile gig for someone who likes to get on TV, and is close enough to Cowher's family in North Carolina to allow him to watch his daughter play basketball.
Cowher left Pittsburgh because of the money he was going to want. Who, other than Jerry Jones, can afford to overpay a coach?
Not being near the 'Skins situation I defer to someone with more immediate knowledge, but the dots DO line up.
The speculation when Greg Williams was hired was that he was being “groomed” for the job.
ESPN was speculation that Cowher was going to be the Giants head coach next year(the guy speaking referred to Tiki Barber as a coach killer).
It doesn’t make any difference, as long as Dan Snyder runs the team, the team will not go anywhere. He managed to hire Joe Gibbs and I think they do no better than .500 this year.
I think one of the reasons he quit was that he had to play New England this year.
