Most will remember him as a broadcaster, more than a player. A great Yankee who gave one of the best induction speeches in Hall of Fame history.

RIP Scooter! You and Pee-Wee were the greatest N.Y. (Yank and Dodger) Shortstops until Derek Jeter.

Phil Rizzuto: October 1, 1961, WCBS radio:
"Here's the windup, fastball, hit deep to right, this could be it! Way back there! Holy cow, he did it! Sixty-one for Maris! And look at the fight for that ball out there! Holy cow, what a shot! Another standing ovation for Maris, and they're still fighting for that ball out there, climbing over each other's backs. One of the greatest sights I've ever seen here at Yankee Stadium!"

At least Vin Scully is still with us.I love Vin Scully. I'm sorry to say I've only recently discovered him as this is the first year we've had the MLB package (plus I heard him a couple of times last year on a trip to So Cal). This Red Sox fan in Connecticut stays up way too late watching LA Dodgers games just to hear the wonderful Vin Scully. He truly is a treasure. :o)
RIP Scooter...

Being a guy, I wouldn’t go that far. I’ll stick with loving his skills, talents and abilities. Great player.

Thanks for the heads up angcat, my kids are dominating TV and I have just had FR up all morning....as if there is anyhthing else!:)
He is a great man and a true Hall of Famer in every sense.
I grew up in the era that only saw him as a broadcaster and a great one at that. I wish I had been able to see him play on all of those great teams.
RIP SCOOTER, Yankee-Nation will forever remember you fondly and with a smile on their face.
