Ive sensed a great deal of hostility from some to all tropical-related (or in some cases just plain weather.) things - guess from people not on the Atlantic or Gulf coasts, or that perceive every MENTION of anything tropical as global warming hype.Just the stuff that comes from NOAA :)

HAW, HAW - I filled up the truck at $2.52 9/10 up at the corner quick stop. Beat you by 2 cents :-)
Anyway - it was time to fill it up. At 27 gallons it’s also the standby gas storage tank for my 5kw generator. When a storm tracks in I’ll fill the 5 gallon gas can. If the power goes out that gives me 32 gallons for the generator.

There are people who talk (type on the Internet) and people who do (also who type on the Internet).
Some of us see the 4th Tropical Depression as a good excuse to check over our disaster plans, rotate food supplies, test back up electric systems and take a good look at the home exterior (for me that means getting the pine straw out of the rain gutters).
If an ice storm, tornado or hurricane knocks out power in my area and shuts things down our house will still be up and running - unless a tornado scores a direct hit.
Many who follow the threads about potential weather disasters will make out like me. Are you with us?

" If the power goes out that gives me 32 gallons for the generator." I'll have 110+ gallons. When Katrina hit two years ago we were without electricity for seven days and I ran the AC/lights off the small generator. The problem with that generator is the gas tank required filling about every two hours, I was up - down all night. I've fixed that problem by having on hand a gas line that will run from my riding lawn mower to the generator. The lawn mower has about a six gallon tank. I get smarter and better prepared after each hurricane.

I went with the 5kw because it will handle the computer center (got to be able to get to FR), entertainment center (keeps the kids happy), fridge and window A/C unit.
We can cook outside on the grill and burners to cut down on heat inside the home. Since the freezer is not counted in the electric plan our plan is to eat our way through the cow items as they defrost :-). Love steaks.

Oknowledging the nay-sayers (and “Oh no, not another hurricane” groaners, I’d flip the reaction of many.
ABBCNNBCBS is SO eager to verify AGW through another massive hurricane season, that every day of no storms merely heightens their fear and rhetoric: even though the NWS degrades the expected number each no hurricanes come up.
So, now that an actual depression is actually out there - and this the still the first 1/2 of the season with no named storms - everybody can get excused for reacting.
Or accused of over-reacting fer that matter.
