Oh... you used the word “STANDARD”.... Exactly.
By the word "standard" I meant an institutional standard, in the case of the 20% down payment, for lenders, and a personal or institutional standard of a payment about 30% of monthly income or less. These used to be approximately the standards on mortgage lending, and it seems that wisdom is becoming apparent.
You'll very likely never see me advocating any governmental regulation of anything. :-)
