I have friends who retired to Costa Rica where their pension and SS income of about $4,000 per month lets them live like royalty - and that is not an exaggeration. So it seems that not only are we outsourcing jobs, we’re outsourcing retirees and their incomes.

Fredericksburg is a beautiful part of Texas in the hill country area.

Fredericksburg, Texas (Admiral Nimitz's hometown)

Yep, I could live there. Luckenbach is right down the road. We could be hanging out with Willie and the boys.

When you’re retired you don’t have to do any darned thing. That includes moving to a retirement spot.

I notice a lot of those places may be cheap to buy in to, but utility bills may be a beotch. Heating in Idaho and A/C in Florida could really run up the cost of living.

I was thinking more along the lines of TN...no state income tax at all, and property taxes are low because government is small...unlike here in Florida...

And if you move to a destination with a lower cost of living than where you reside now-maybe even getting a bigger house for less money-it will add to your net worth and enable you to live better in retirement.

To be picky, this can NOT add to your "net worth". It can add to your disposable income, or increase your "enjoyment" of life by giving you a bigger house. But your net worth included the value of your old home, and the value of the new home, so assuming you sell at the value and buy at the value it doesn't effect your net worth at all (except the commissions and taxes CUT INTO your net worth).

Retirement shouldn't include neighbors.

They pray they can catch a flight to the USA. I didn't say it was a great idea, but there is still a huge number of American retirees moving there in addition to places like Thailand and the Phillipines.

I have a buildable, highbank oceanfront lot that I’m planning to sell.

It’s located midway between Seattle and Vancouver, Canada.

It has an awesome view of snowy Mount Baker and the San Juan Islands.

I’ve often thought that for someone wanting to get out of the big cities when they retire, it would be perfect.

If it was in California it would be worth $1M+, but here in Washington State it will probably sell for $350K.

True, but I never heard of it being a college town.

please don't encourage retired Californians and New Yorkers to move to Texas...especially Fredricksburg.

I just moved back from Florida where all the Northerners had all the answers to social problems by giving the government carte blanc.

The only spot in Texas that Yankees and Californians should consider is...... Odessa or Muleshoe. Otherwise please move to Arizona or New Mexico.... maybe even Louisiana.
