Not only did you run the draft while I was at work, but you guys sent Amobi Okoye to the Dolphins? Are you kidding me? Okoye is best-suited for the undertackle position in a 4-3 defense, not NT in the Dolphins’ hybrid 3-4.
Since I missed the mock draft, you get to see my projected top-ten draft list:
1. Oak: Calvin Johnson, WR
2. Det: Gaines Adams, DE
3. Cle: Adrian Peterson, RB
4. Tam: Amobi Okoye, DT
5. Ari: Joe Thomas, OT
6. Mia: Brady Quinn, QB (via trade w/Washington)
7. Min: LaRon Landry, S
8. Atl: Joe Staley, OT
9. Was: Adam Carriker, DE (via trade w/Miami)
10. Hou: Levi Brown, OT
Forgot to mention—word is the Patriots are taking ILB David Harris at #28, mainly because you guys idiotically sent us your 2nd rounder for Wes Welker.
I've never even heard Beason's name mentioned around here. Others mentioned have been Timmons from FSU and a flyer for Abiamiri from Notre Dame.
No J. Russell anywhere in your top ten list. Has the Miami QB disease spread to their fans too?
You forget the examples of Aaron Rodgers and Matt Leinart.
Okay, Russell COULD go at #1 or #3. I just don’t think he will. I don’t see Oakland passing on Calvin Johnson, and Phil Savage and Romeo Crennel are in “win now” mode so they can keep their jobs—they need Peterson, not Russell.
In a just draft, Russell would be a mid-2nd round pick. He showed up for the most important job interview of his life—the NFL Combine—fat and lazy. That does not bode well for his NFL career, high draft pick or not.
I would have no problem with the Raiders drafting Calvin Johnson. He's going 1st or 2nd for sure. I think these drafts showing him going 4th is just wishful thinking.
Frankly, if the Raiders pass on him, I see Detroit grabbing him at 2nd no matter what. Even if it is to trade him later.
Brett Favre and JaMarcus Russell are two totally different quarterbacks. Please don’t tell me you think Russell would be a good fit in Gregg Knapp’s offense.
As far as Detroit goes, you presume a level of sentient thought that Matt Millen has yet to display.
Yea, I think Russell would play great in Oakland. He appears strong enough to handle the punishment he'll receive learning to QB in the NFL. My biggest concern with taking him over Johnson is that the history of longevity for large QBs in the NFL is fairly sparse. It seems that the gutty little guys like Garcia end up being more durable than the tanks like Culpepper. Russell is a tank.
