We’ve encouraged him to seriously consider the military. His brother is in the Coast Guard Reserves and we have another family member in Anbar, as an Army Ranger. He just does not know what he wants to do yet, career-wise, and needs to figure that out on his own. Now’s the time to do it.
I imagine the boys can keep the utilities down, then. Our electric bill here in the Hudson Valley is abominable....I guess the climate there is the main draw. Perhaps if he makes out all right, eventually he’ll take pity on his poor, old parents and invite us out- to live? He he.
It only goes to the Pendelton Marine base, e ine all of Orange county is between SD and LA.
Yeah, San Clemente and Dana Point are the southernmost suburbs of LA in Orange County. ALL of Orange County is a part of the Combined Los Angeles Metropolitan Area.
Excellent advice! One of his biggest reasons for the move is the education reason, and he already researched and found out about the residency requirement. Your added advice re: heading to Motor Vehicle right away is helpful, as is the renting month to month.
Would you know of job availability at the colleges there(maintenance, whatever)?
Someone else mentioned the Navy Yard. Jason was in mechanical engineering in college, but realized it wasnt for him even though he had begun his junior year:( Hes done construction work for the past year, as well as pizza delivery and also worked at a state park for two seasons. Hes a hard worker at whatever job he has. Thanks again.
Don’t worry, he’ll have no trouble finding a job. For the Community Colleges, there is a website with a job line:

I originally arrived in San Diego on January 4th from Minnesota. My first day in town, the one person I knew here took me to Torrey Pines in La Jolla where the golf tournaments are held for a walk on the cliffs overlooking the ocean. It was January 4th and it was 75 degrees and not a cloud in the sky as I looked out over the Pacific. I said, “I am never leaving here!” And I haven’t.
I’m not saying that San Diego is for everyone, it isn’t but many people love it here.
Don’t forget to remind him, however, that it is 115 degrees here in Yuma regularly during the summer, and that there is no ocean, and not much in the way of things to do. In addition, we are choked with Snowbirds from November to April.
