Getting bigger all the time:

Lucky shot:
To: pigsmith
That’s a good one!
I wasn’t quick enough to catch it, but when the eaglets were little fuzzballs one adult was on the next and the other was coming in for a landing in the distance, talons out and wings spread. That would have made a good shot.

Yesterday one of the adults brought a “gift” for the youngsters... a dead bird, probably a young crow.
He/she dropped in the middle of the nest, then just stood there and waited for the eaglets to do something. That went on for a few minutes, then one of the eaglets decided to try and get his own breakfast. At that point the adult stepped in to help and show him the proper technique (yuck), but he made a point of waiting until the youngster took the initiative.
The other eaglet just sat there looking perplexed and waiting for room service. He must be the baby of the family. :-(

Hopefully he will quickly learn by example (or simple observation) from the older sibling’s actions. If it’s true that the stronger one will push the weaker one out of the nest, so far it hasn’t happened yet, and I’m hoping it doesn’t happen at all.
To: pigsmith
I hope not. They’re only a day a part in age, so maybe the other one will learn quickly.
It’s the first time I’ve seen the adult do that.
Oh, they must be getting drenched right now. We’re having a nasty thunderstorm. Logging off...

Well, this didn't look good at all...

Then a little flapping and stretching -

What is going on here..

The leaps to his feet -

I didn't know birds will stretch out on their sides??
To: pigsmith
I’ve seen these two eaglets flop over like they were dead, only to perk up when food arrived.
Lazy, aren’t they?

News flash, one of the eaglets made a short test flight this morning onto one of the branches, while one of the adults watched from a distance on camera 1. It won’t be long until they fledge!

I got a great series of screen captures yesterday, unfortunately they’re on my work computer. I’ll see if I can upload them on Monday.
They’re running out of room in the next! I’m thrilled that both birds have made it.

To: SandyInSeattle
With the two of them together, it’s going to be interesting to watch as they both start flapping and jumping around, preparing to launch. In the meantime, they appear to be spending their time primping, or flopped over as if dead. :-)

Now this was a fun moment. The eaglets started moving around the nest, very animated, interested in something at their feet. I'm not sure what this is, but they had quite the tug of war over it:
