.I still love the old albums Fair Warning, Van Halen, Van Halen II, Women and Children first.

You forgot one....

let it die peacefully fellas...you've had your day in the spotlight.

Bump to that! Unfortunately, Eddie's ego won't let that happen.

I love how he says his tongue cancer had nothing to do with his nearly 40 year 3-4 pack a day habit. I did a meet and greet with Van Halen and have met Eddie twice...he was awesomely cool believe it or not with Gary Cherone during the Van Halen 3 tour...he was sober..friendly...and coherent. When I got to rub elbows with him again during the Hagar reunion tour...he was drenched in wine...he walked around with a jug of it as a matter of fact.

His solo was the worst I have ever heard him perform and he was laying down on the stage for 20% of the show...he was tapped out.

Agree.

VH with Sammy=mediocre

Didn't like VH with Sammy.

Dave solo=mediocre

I love Skyscraper and Eat 'Em and Smile.

Saw Dave twice in concert and it was a blast both times. Dave rocks.

Sammy solo=awesome

I became a bigger Sammy fan after I saw him in concert.

OK, to be fair, Dave did have two great albums, the two you mention. But he still seemed to "shine" more with VH.

Hi DV! TGIF :)

Eddie is so crusty right now he'd make an ass out of himself if he tried to perform on stage.

Eddie didn't learn anything from this old VH ditty:

Well, my baby, she dont want me around.
She said shes tired of watchin me fall down.
She wants the good life, only the best.
But I like that bottle better than the rest.
And she said: I think that youre headed for a whole lot of trouble.
Well, I think that youre headed for a whole lot of trouble.
Well, I think that youre headed for a whole lot of trouble.
If you take your whiskey...
Well, that liquor in the nighttime leaves strange memories.
Seems a lifetime since yesterday.
Come the daybreak, come the morrow,
That womans waited up all night for me again.
She said: well, I think that youre headed for a whole lot of trouble.
Yeah, I think that youre headed for a whole lot of trouble.
Yeah, you know that youre headed for a lot of trouble.
If you take your whiskey home.
Some goes to women, some goes to jesus,
Though Im absolutely certain boths all right.
But it takes me at least halfway to the label
fore I can even make it through the night.
Well, I think that youre headed for a whole lot of trouble.
Yeah, I think that youre headed for a whole lot of trouble.
Yeah, you know that youre headed for a lot of trouble.
If you take your whiskey home.

His leather jacket had chains that would jingle
They both met movie stars, partied and mingled
Their A&R man said "I don't hear a single"
The future was wide open

...Tom Petty

I love Skyscraper and Eat 'Em and Smile.

That's because Dave had Steve Vai as his guitarist on those tours.

I agree VH with DLR is much better than VH with SH, besides everything is better when you include a Dave. ;)

Hate to say it but when he was doing blow it kept him sharp (think early 80s heyday). Switching to booze late 80s/early 90s obviously did him in. Valerie left too.
