AHHHH!!! KDE!! MUCH BETTER!!! ;)
This is the closest I could find for you, although VMWare Server isn't free, you do get a 30 day trial so you can do it free for a while. Maybe you can figure out how to "appliance" XP and use it on the free VMWare Player. Good Luck.
Be careful! You might taint your reputation as a Windows shill! LMAO!
BTW, I have my system in a dual-boot with PCLinuxOS 2007... anyhow... ;)
I just hate all the negative MS Bashing over Vista that I think is unfounded...
It's a good OS and I think they should get credit where it's due, I just Vista MOST of the time and VERY VERY rarely do i every even think about booting into linux... for what reason?
Sometimes when I boot into Linux I'm like "DA**" I wish that I was on Vista...
Creating an XP Pro VM for the free VMware Player<[> Looks like just the ticket for you, as long as you have an XP pro CD. Those should be fairly easy to come by soon since Vista is out.
Good Luck.

I had to re-type this typos and such...
I attended a Security Group luncheon today and the speaker went over the new security features of Vista. I'm particularly interested in the BitLocker feature. Today was the first I'd heard about it.
Actually, VMWare Server is free. It's part of their Free Product lineup.
Holy moley! I didn't realize that. Thank you!
I will download it immediately! Awesome!
Ping for later.
Yea, thats an Ultimate extra... I downloaded it onto my system but I don't know WTF it does.. or how to use it LOL ;)
Thanks for the link! I may give it a try over spring break!
VMware actually started giving their virtualization technology away for free first, did they not?
VMware gave their stuff away for free first from what I recall. How is MS using their O/S for leverage either?
Both companies have several different versions of virtualization, so that's not an easy answer. If you want to use Vista as a host, this new Virtual PC is about all there is right now. VMware offers a free beta of Worksation 6, but I wouldn't load beta software on Vista plus that's going to run out and cost you $150 down the road as VMware is bad about time bombing their products. You can also try VMware Server on Vista, but you have to boot into unsigned driver mode each time which is a major pain. As far as any break on licensing for your guest Windows VM's, I think that only comes into play if you buy Windows Server Enterprise Edition @~$2,500, but you do get to run 4 free Windows Server VM's on that system without having to buy the licenses for the VM's. We use both VMware, which is better for virtualizing other non-Windows VM's, and Windows Enterprise, which is cheaper for managing Windows Server VM's.
Dude you shouldn't be sending people to hacker sites like that, I only went there because I have tons of protection but that thing comes up with skull and crossbones right across the top, looks like a good place to pick up a real nasty.
They give away VMware Server for free now, although it's probably their worst product. Still good, but even their Workstation product is better, which is why they still charge for it.
Maybe you can figure out how to "appliance" XP and use it on the free VMWare Player.
You should be able to build the VM (appliance) with Server and then run with Player, which has less overhead when running. You give up some features like "snapshot" backups when just using the player, though.
thats only on Vista 64bit...
Not the best, only comes with Vista Ultimate ($), and certainly not crackable. I'd recommend PGP or something else 3rd party, relying solely on MS for your security is usually a mistake since they are such a huge target for hackers/haters.

AMD chief says Vista impact underestimated
Microsoft Corp.'s new Windows Vista operating system will give a bigger boost to technology spending than many people now expect, Hector Ruiz, chief executive of computer chip maker Advanced Micro Devices Inc., said on Tuesday.
"We're very optimistic about Vista and we think people are underestimating the impact it will have," Ruiz told Reuters after a speech at the Detroit Economic Club.
