Thank you ladies for raising this issue. I did not want to stray there on my own. That case is absolutely what burns me about the Ramos-Compean case, because everything Ramos-Compean were accused of, the government committed in the "Death House case" but to a far greater degree. Worse. People were actually killed, not just wounded. One allegedly a US citizen kidnapped by Mexican drug lords. [Granted he was alleged to have been a dealer himself.] Constitutional rights were violated, Federal laws were violated. A whistle blower was smeared and pushed into retirement. And a cover-up ensued. And to my knowledge, not a single US Agent from DoJ down was ever held accountable. And the major Mexican target of the plot gone bad was settled out of court so the cover-up would not be revealed.
All of Johnny Sutton's platitudes in this case fall on deaf ears because of his behavior in that case. If these two agents are not pardoned or given a retrial, I hope someone on Free Republic delves into that case and holds Sutton accountable for every transgression committed by him and his office.
I'm hoping a giant spotlight in the form of some kind of investigation gets shone on Sutton's office. Each of the three cases have their own set of circumstances to generate outrage. The fact that all of the murder charges against Santillan-Tabares were dropped was outrageous.
Looks like everyone is gone but me. I'll turn out the lights.
Night all.
Hello, still here, huh?
Yes, I thought the same. Different situations, but each reflected the abuse of power and a miscarriage of justice. The Santillan-Tabares case was truly outrageous. It stuns me that it did not receive more attention. World Net Daily covered it and one of the Congresswomen wrote a letter on behalf of the whistle blower, but that was it.
Somebody has clout. It has to be Sutton or higher up even.
Night, Fox.
Morning, IJ. 8)
Off to watch the news.
I first read about the so-called 'House of Death' in the UK Guardian News.
One wonders how our government saw fit to participate in this.
Later, I tracked down Johnny Sutton's press releases about Santillan-Tabares. The first link reports he was charged with five counts of murder, running a continuing criminal enterprise (CCE) and several other counts related to conspiracy and drug offenses. The second reports that all murder charges were dropped and he was allowed to plead to a single lesser charge of CCE. And this, even though they reportedly had one of the murders on tape.
This house of death thing is appalling. The lawyers involved in this thing should be held accountable under their licenses. I think that their conduct possibly violated several rules.
In all fairness, none of us have the resources to defend ourself against the deep pockets of the Federal Government. I guess it's something to really consider before applying for one of the current 800 open Border Patrol jobs.
There wasn't enough there, there for me to vote to convict, but I dare say I would have never made it on the jury. What do we know about this particular jury -- other than three wanted to vote for aquital and were beaten down by the jury foreman, based on what he claimed the judge told him to tell them.
I know from my friend in El Paso that the people there don't like Border Patrol agents.
Why didn't defense bring stronger evidence to the jury that they did report it to supervisors, who didn't file a written report because it was late in the shift and they didn't want to wait around for the FBI or spend hours on paperwork.
Wouldn't be the first border patrol agent to be working on our side of the border to help drug trafficers on the other side of the border.
If it didn't violate some kind of rule, then the rules need to be revised!
Appalling is a good word.
Now 805! 8 ) Not only did Ramos and Compean get canned, but two additional Agents were fired and one quit as a result of this investigation.
Which doesn't surpise me at all and is a good reason why they should have had their trial in a more neutral location.
~LOL~ I presented some of this data to one of our most persistent nay-sayers (about Compean/Ramos) and was laughed at for believing any of this "left wing" spin... I think the Narco News has some fascinating information on their site that the MSM flatly ignores.
LOL. Yep!
Apparently, contrary to what Sutton said, OAD's immunity was not to be revoked if he lied. Very interesting if that proves true. It is almost an incentive to say what those granting the immunity want you to say.
The transcripts reveal conversations about the immunity agreement strewn throughout the various volumes. I haven't got a handle on the whole thing. It deserves a timeline of it's own as to who said what during the trial, and how the judge ruled. I did read the part that was highlighting the many lies told to OAD and that this was a valid basis for yanking the agreement. The government seemed to be very ho-hum about that option.
I have a new question maybe one of the lawyer types here can explain.
But the officers were not charged with anything having to do with the above. In fact, there was no wrongdoing charged with anything that happened prior to the point where parties reached "the ditch" and were out of their vehicles. The Government seems to be trying to paint a story that this was a grand conspiracy starting with some sort of secret radio transmissions. So how is any of this testimony admissable or even relevant?
I drifted off to another Thread this morning. One about the morning talk shows. Wow, we think we get a bit testy.
Beware of Rudy threads! LOL
