I thought the Taco Bell ad was one of the best. Top 5 maybe.

From an article by a University of Delaware Associate Prof of business administration, John Antil, Jan 29, 2007:

http://www.udel.edu/PR/UDaily/2007/jan/advertising012907.html

"In addition, with only a week to go, CBS still had some advertising units that it needed to sell. Though not unusual to have some time left to be sold, it appears that this year has been more of a challenge for CBS to sell the high priced spots, especially those in the less desirable fourth quarter, Antil said.

“Some companies prefer to take a risk and wait until late in hopes of getting a much better deal. Depending on the number of units available, a company might be able to get a spot for $2 million, or even less,” Antil said, adding that if CBS cannot sell all of its units for a reasonable price, it could end up using the time itself to promote its own programs instead of alienating other buyers by offering too large a discount.

“Buying Super Bowl time is unlike any other advertising purchase and it is a very complicated process that involves considerable negotiation, risk and gamesmanship,” Antil said. "

I enjoyed it too and wouldn't mind seeing it again. I still won't eat there.

I like the 1st GM commercial where all they did was sing songs with Chevy etc in them. But disappointed they didn't use a REAL 409 in the "4-0-9" part, because they DID use an old Camaro/TA in 1 older song part....

"Was there recently a fad involving dropping acid within the American marketing community?"

I think that particular fad has been going on for several years now. I remember a Dodge truck ad from two or three years ago, where the passenger is choking on a piece of beef jerky and the driver jams on the brakes and the chewed-up jerky flies out and splats on the windshield. And the Budweiser horse fart commercial from a previous year. And of course, now we have that Snickers commercial from this year.

And these are only a few of the recent commercials with an apparent goal of being as disgusting and offensive as possible. When did the advertising geniuses decides that they'd sell more product by dragging it into the sewer?

Huh. Nobody seems to even mention the CareerBuilder.com commercials...those were the only ones I liked...especially the one where they all run off the cliff at the end...

Is is just me or did anyone else find those humorous? I hope it is not just me...that might be a bad thing.

I liked the CareerBuilder ones the best, too. I especially liked the guy with the three-ring binder as his helmet. The whole office-worker-gladiator scene was great.

I just heard from my brother in Durham, NC that the first Doritos ad with the car accident was filmed at Waverley Place in Cary, NC by an amateur group of twenty somethings for under $50.

They won $10,000 from Doritos and didn't know they had won until they saw it on the Super Bowl.

Yes, that was a contest that had been going on. You could vote online. Two brothers with a small video production business they are struggling to get off the ground, the girl in the video is married to one of the brothers. The guy is a member of the group also. They spent $12 in filming the video (4 bags of Doritos).

The other Doritos ad with the check-out girl in the grocery store must have been the runner-up winner. Those two commercials were 2 of the 5 finalists in the contest.
