Another long-time marriage was Gregory and Veronique Peck. She was a beauty (may still be alive). I read an interview of him some years ago in which he said that he and his wife couldn't stand to be apart so she went with him on shoots as much as possible, and they made it possible most of the time. People were always asking him how he could STAND to be around his WIFE 24/7. He graciously responded (my poor rephrase) that they loved each other's company and didn't like being apart. It would be nice if more people could be so happily matched.

His first marriage ( 3 children) ended in divorce.

As I said, it would be great if more couples could be so happily matched. Peck's first marriage was before my time and beyond my observation. It seems he learned quite a bit from its failure.

But from what I read & understand, he was a liberal's liberal....pro abortion, pro gay rights, anti-war, a dislike for Robert Bork and conservative values....actually thought about running against Ronald Reagan....etc.

Whatever his politics, he was a terrific actor and he picked some very fine roles. I loved his "Atticus" in "To Kill a Mockingbird" and the fact that he often chose to play characters who stood for good and right things. He did so, convincingly. He was a role model for me as I grew up -- a man who could lead, in the right direction, with gentle strength.

This movie caused me a few nights of restless sleep.
My then neighbors acted rather strange in a secretive manner
and the movie put suspicious thoughts of them in my mind.

They never did fit in the neighborhood, but thankfully they
moved after 3 years.

I would say hardly a record. I mean Arnold and Maria have been married over 20 years. Tom Hanks and his wife have been married a long time. There are many celebrities that have been married a long time.

All due respect, if this is your role model, OK.

I care too much about the politics of even actors to consider them for role models just because they can act.

Barbara Streisand can 'act'...
..Susan Sarandon can 'act'...
Alec Baldwin can 'act'...
..Sean Penn can 'act'....

But I would never choose any of them for a role model.

In all honesty, I think less of Peck because he made a very crude, vile joke/remark about Reagan publicly, when Reagan was in office.

That did it for me.

Guenevere, I was a child when watching Peck's movies that created my opinion of him. I cared not a whit about politics, who was sleeping with or divorcing whom -- none of that even entered my mind. I am referring to his acting persona, and YES he was a positive role model for me AS AN ACTOR portraying a man who did good things. Mercy me, I would have hated to be your daughter with such strict rules for living at the age of ten. I still watch some of his movies, such as "Mockingbird" as an adult, and enjoy them, and here seems to be the big difference between us on the subject, which I do not care to go over any further: I separate the actor from his politics and enjoy the story being told in the movie if it is an edifying movie, and I am very careful to avoid the junk. I would much rather, and do, watch a classic movie with great acting AND a great plot with "tainted" actors, as you seem to think people like Peck, than watch much of the gorp that is being shoveled out today, when the whole cast and crew seem duty-bound to throw every form of corruption at viewers. And should it salve your conscience to somehow make a little room for me to have admired Peck as a role model in my youth, let it be known that I suffered a terrible dearth of good male role models in my house and Peck was a salve to me, a literal beacon, to show me that men could use their enormous strength, in the eyes of a child, enormous strength, for good and not for evil. So please, back off.
