Our Collective Voice - Note from a Retired DA

Recently, we received the following email from a retired elected North Carolina District Attorney.

I am a retired NC elected District Attorney. As such, I am irritated by the way Mr. Nifong has sullied ALL DA's reputations as well as his own. Thus, this email.

The bar complaint may take months to resolve. It is the nature of those beasts. However, a removal petition (NCGS 7A-66) is pretty swift. Moreover, it is the nuclear weapon of administrative remedies. The standards are amorphous while the quantum of proof is only that the judge find the allegation(s) true. The DNA fiasco is probably enough (my view) to warrant a hearing. However, such matters as yesterdays contradictions between Nifong and the Sheriff's captain add some fuel to the fire.

I do not write this lightly. NCGS 7A-66 is powerful. I remember we got a lecture regarding them at one of our conferences. Amazingly, many did not know the statute existed, yet afterward all recognized the consequences. Judges do not act on them cavalierly since no one wants to behead someone without due care. However, I do not think that removal forfeits a pension. Many think it does, but in NC the statute does not seem to call for that as far as I can tell. Thus, wives and kids continue to eat.

The petition itself might even resolve the situation as Nifong may finally see the light and realize he is done (or his wife will.) Right now he seems to be getting no good advice as to anything. Nifong's own recent statements do not serve him at all. He is lashing out and baiting the press. Dumb.

I think a great, big poster with both Nifong's and Mangum's picture on it with the heading, "Durham's LEAST WANTED" spread all over the county and the internet would be appropriate right about now.

How many innocent men would Nifong be tempted to illegally prosecute and perhaps send to prison? Would their children eat?

And colleges across the country are producing more and more of these morons every day.

Anyway, she sounds like a vagina-centric dyke to me. It seems to be all she thinks and cares about. It's not surprise that that's the only place on Mangum's body where she found any swelling. For all we know, she may have done it herself, lol!

That's what I thought also. Very hard hitting and I would tell Nifong to give it up now, there might be some hope.

First, the provenance of the time-date stamps are born out by other facts and observations. Second, the date/time stamp can only be adjusted prior to a photo being taken, not after, in terms of photos already taken. Third, the camera has been examined by technical experts who state that it had not been adjusted.

She would have to claim and prove she was insane after being charged, not as a firewall against being charged in the first place.

I (Linwood Wilson) showed (redacted) a picture from the Dan Abrams Show on MSNBC showing her on the porch at the door. Inv. Wilson asked (redacted) when that picture was taken. (redacted) stated the picture was taken when she arrived and was going into the house because it was showing her putting the money in her purse.

That's fine. I've experimented with my own. Will be using it to cover my tracks on my next interstate crime spree.

It's very obvious from Bissey's statement and all the other information and evidence available that she arrived at about 11:45 -11:50, and there was no time for a rape and beating or assault before the dance started. Why and how could she perform after the horrific assault she described? She's changed the story to salvage her identification and didn't think out the ramifications of the change. Like most ignorant blacks, she lives in the moment and deals with what's immediately in front of her and not the broader picture or ramifications of today's activities (such as telling lies) down the road even just a short distance.
